Read What You Own 2026

This is a brand shiny new thread for those of us who want to continue reading what we own in 2026.
My aims for 2026 are:

  • At least half my reading will be from books I already own on 1st January 2026
  • I will buy less than a quarter of my reading new including kindle deals😱 and book club books
  • I will wait when prize lists are released to see if the books appear in the library within a week. I will not read full longlists unless I love the sound of each and every book on it.
  • For the first two months I will only read what I own- focusing on the older books on my kindle while allowing myself to read newer (but already owned) physical books
What are your RWYO aims for 2026?

My Audible subscription renews on Sunday! Any recs?

ÚlldemoShúl · 05/05/2026 20:05

Well my current is London Falling as recommended by you 🤣 but if you’re keen on crime there’s a new Jane Harper or any of the Louise Welsh books read by Alan Cumming. Also I find audio great for stream of consciousness so loved Milkman by Anna Burns or any Virginia Woolf

Very fussy when it comes to crime. Done Milkman and Done Virginia Woolf (third year flashback)

I’ve bought a few books in the monthly deals, and on Audible. So far my TBR pile is slowly shrinking though.

Just finished a RWYO - Clean Cut by Lynda La Plante - bought in 2014.

SheilaFentiman · 05/05/2026 20:35

The wagon is a dot to me 😀

I am enjoying many of my new purchases though…

MamaNewtNewt · 05/05/2026 22:49

I’ve largely stayed on the wagon, esp compared with my usual buying habits but I think I will be down overall, esp as I have DNF quite a few books. I’ve realised I need to be more picky if I have any hope of getting through TBR mountain! @EineReiseDurchDieZeit I don’t manage to get through as many audiobooks as I’d like but here are some I’ve enjoyed (although I suspect you’ll have already read all of these):

The Outsiders by SE Hinton
Girl With a Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier
Rizzio by Denise Mina
Clothes, Clothes, Clothes, Music, Music, Music, Boys, Boys, Boys by Viv Albertine
Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton
Miss Pettigrew Lives For a Day by Winifred Watson
This Much is True by Miriam Margolyes
The Beastie Boys Book

AliasGrape · 06/05/2026 13:47

I'm still sort of wagon-adjacent! I've bought a couple of things this year, but far far fewer books than in previous years.

I've started The Children's Book which I've had on my kindle since 2015, but I'm making slow progress. I like it well enough, my brain is just not cooperating currently.

Benvenuto · 07/05/2026 07:30

I forgot to log Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen - altbough that is really a re-re-re-read as I’m n my third copy. I’m currently reading Mansfield Park @TimeforaGandTalthough that won’t count as I’ve just bought a new copy (also my third).

I love my Kindle - it stops me skipping ahead in books and - unlike a bookcase - it takes up minimal space and doesnt require dusting. I also don’t run out of books any more. All of this compensates for not being as comfortable to read as a real book, although I still prefer real books for cookery books and other manuals.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 07/05/2026 14:38

I have finished Say You’ll Remember Me by Abby Jimenez

ÚlldemoShúl · 07/05/2026 14:42

So far in May, I have RWYO on Persuasion by Jane Austen, Skippy Dies by Paul Murray and The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton. Loved Persuasion. The other two were okay. Reviews on 50 Booker thread.

Just finished Broken Pots, Mending Lives by Richard Osgood, a fascinating account of the work of Operation Nightingale, set up to help the recovery of armed forces personnel by involving them in archaeology. Review on 50B at some point.

CutFlowers · 16/05/2026 07:55

Have not done very well with RWYO so far in May but have just finished two more short novels after reading some library books - The Great Gatsby and Greek Lessons by Han Kang. I also listened to Schindlers Ark. I am aiming to get back to RWYO for the rest of the month.

SnowFrogJelly · 17/05/2026 01:19

Have just enjoyed and finished Anthony Horowitz, Close to Death. I’ve enjoyed all of the Hawthorne and Horowitz series so far.

I’ve also got several Angela Marsons on my TBR pile, but have just started The Postscript Murders by Elly Griffiths.

RomanMum · 18/05/2026 08:18

Just finished The Rabbit Queen by Dexter Palmer, a retelling of an eighteenth century ‘medical mystery’.

ÚlldemoShúl · Yesterday 16:45

Finished The Hand that First Held Mine by Maggie O’Farrell (good read) and DNFed A Rising Man by Abir Mukhergee (not interesting enough to engage my frazzled brain right now)
