Book voucher is burning a hole, what to get

So I have a Waterstones voucher from earlier in the year and am going shopping today and would like to use it but have no idea what to get.
I've spent the last few years reading the Outlander series and can't do another reread.
Apart from that I've recently read The cuckoo's calling, which I wanted to love but didn't, Strange Sally Diamond which was ok but I bit one dimensional and A Terrible Kindness which was the best out of the three recent reads.
I loved The Beekeeper of Aleppo.
Any suggestions of what to go for next would be greatly appreciated.

I hear good things about The Seven Sisters series but haven’t started it yet (by Lucinda Riley)

My two best books of this year were by the same author, Ling Ling Huang and they were Natural Beauty and Immaculate Conception.

I would recommend Abby Jimenez if you fancy a romcom and None Of This Is True by Lisa Jewell for a thriller

If you like historical fiction may I recommend Frances Quinn. I’m reading That Bonesetter Woman which is fabulous and I also adored her latest, The Lost Passenger, set on the Titanic.

Have you read Pachinko? It was this months reading group read and excellent. Very readable, a multi generational story about a Korean family that move to Japan.

S.A Chakraborty Devabad Trilogy
Deborah Hawks All souls Trilogy

The dictionary of lost words, pip Williams - utterly brilliant historical fiction.

The Names by Florence Knapp.

So what did you buy op?

blibblibs · 31/12/2025 23:50

So I got The Angel Tree by Lucinda Riley and A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini and The Bee sting by Paul Murray. I haven't started any yet.
Still have some money left on the voucher so may go back and replace brave new world & 1984 after loosing most of my books in a house move years ago.
It's my ny resolution to get back to reading more.

That is by far the best book I read in 2025.

I will have to get that from somewhere else as although I was probably in one of the biggest shopping centres in the UK the Waterstones is not very big.
I'm determined to get back into books this year and stop doom scrolling.

If you like BNW can I recommend the rest of Huxley’s fiction. People don’t read him anymore, but his early stuff is brilliant, especially Chrome Yellow and Point Counter Point.

Happy reading op!

Recent books I’ve read and really enjoyed are old soul by Susan barker and all the colours in the dark by Chris Whitaker. Very different but I loved them both.
