Fifty (audio)books for 2026

Due to various things going on at the moment I struggle to concentrate on reading, but I’ve found I get through audiobooks at a pace as I drive a lot for work and I can knit/crochet while listening.

I’ve been sticking to a couple of crime series and they ran out so I listened to a recommendation, Midnight Library, and loved it! I also realised audiobooks are part of my Spotify membership so don’t necessarily have to do Audible.

I’m after some recommendations for stand alone audiobooks - I don’t want to fall down a series rabbit hole at the moment. My current listen is How to Kill Your Family and that should be done by NYE.

No war drama, nothing with sexual abuse or child abuse themes. Happy for suggestions of books people have read but not listened to.

Thanks all.

I listen to lots of audiobooks. If you haven’t done this already, make sure you join your local library and use the borrow box app to listen for free. My library doesn’t have everything I want so I still use Audible, but it’s a brilliant resource for free reading and listening.

This year I have really enjoyed Liane Moriarty’s books and they’re all available from my library via Borrow Box. Bob Mortimer’s books are also enjoyable (and narrated by him). Many of my other listens this year have been in the Romantasy genre so I don’t know if that’s your cup of tea, but happy to give recommendations if you’re interested.

Ken Follet? I’ve just finished Circle of Days and really enjoyed it. Long, but engaging. Read by Richard Armitage - I often search Audible by reader as a good one makes such a difference!

Sci Fi? I’ve listened to Expeditionary Force and it was very good (it’s the first in a series, but I’ve only listened to that one, was sufficiently wrapped up that I didn’t need to dive in to the next!). The Martian is good too, much better than I was expecting.

I listen via my library for free with Libby and Borrowbox. You need to wait for the best sellers but you can just have a big hold list. It's a great way to try new things. I often search on narrators I like as listening to the same person can be really comforting.
