What else might I like?

Really enjoy the slow development of the characters and then there is always a twist along the way. I think I have 3 of hers left to read.

Anything similar

Thanks

Watching this with interest as I also really liked the couple of Clare Chambers books i've read so far.
Different style of writing but I really love Kate Atkinson and her characters.

I like Clare Chambers alot too, I've enjoyed Emilia Hart's 2 novels recently.

Sheeppig · 24/11/2025 18:46

Maybe try Sally Vickers- Miss Garnet's Angel is a good one to start with. Joanna Glen All My Mothers and Jo Browning Wroe's A Terrible Kindness have a similar feel to Clare Chambers I think.

Thanks
ive read A Terrible Kindness and really enjoyed it.

Also read most of Kate Atkinson and both Emilia Hart books too so I'm obvious drawn to this type of genre.

I'll check out Sally Vickers & Joanna Glen though thanks

Carol Shields. The Stone Diaries and Happenstance are a couple if my favourites. Also Mr Golightly’s Holiday is another good Sally Vickers.

Yes it sounds like we like similiar authors. I have never read Emilia Hart- what's a good one to start with?

I've just finished In a Good Light, such a good read. I really enjoy character driven novels and she is really good at that.
You might enjoy Rosie Thomas.

You might like Claire McGlasson. She has only written two novels but well written, thoughtful and full of life. They combine imagination and real life.

The first is, The Rapture about The Panecea Society based in Bedford, It's a cult made up of almost entirely single young women. It did exist, although they are all dead now, but you can go on the website and find out more about them-fascinating!

The second is , The Misadventures of Margaret Finch. Set in Blackpool in the 30's, Margaret is part of the Social Observation unit and observe she does.

I enjoyed them both and recommend them to the house.

Imogen Clark springs to mind?

I've recently discovered Lissa Evans and have now read almost everything she's written.

Edit: i didn't realise she was a TV director Lissa Evans https://share.google/3PExgEAmg3FgNF8MJ

Anne Enright.
A bit quirkier but Anne Tyler (US novelist)
Elizabeth Strout - Olive Kitteridge novels
A bit older and more "classic" the Balkan Trilogy/ the Levant Trilogy by Olivia Manning
Brookly and Long Island by Colm Toibin
