Looking forward to quiet reading in December, my work is manic just now but I can dream!
What do you like for this time of year? I like mysteries, well written chick lit, lighter literary fiction, not a fan of fantasy/sci fi/horror.

I just recommended Small Things Like These on another thread, which I really enjoyed.

I've also been looking for some cosy books to read 😊
My reccomendations are; christmas at fair acre and the christmas mouse both by "miss read' theyre both set in a lovely 1950s feel village. I've read them every year for about 20 tears so might be just something I love!
I also reccomend the christmas mystery by jostling gaardner which i think is s childrens book but is really lovely.

I always suggest this. From the cover (and title) it looks a bit trashy but it is a well written, light Christmas read. Everyone I’ve suggested it to has loved it. Worth a try…

I've recommended this many times on here but, The Secret Christmas by Anna Abney is a lovely read. The story of one family's Christmas while under Cromwell rule.

This one looks lovely - just my type of book!

I always read Winter Solstice by Rosamunde Pilcher on the run up to Christmas, but it’s about 25 years old now.

It's really lovely. And nice and short as well! I think it's only about 150 pages.

I'm a fan of Sarah Morgan and her Christmas romances are always light and enjoyable as well as festive. There are a good number but Sleigh Bells in the Snow, Miracle on Fifth Avenue if you like a New York Setting, Snowed in for Christmas which has a Scotland setting, are good starters.

I think I might give the full-on romances a swerve - sorry!

I read The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper every year. I add other Christmassy books to the mix, but this is the one that is always on the list.

I second The Christmas Mystery by Jostein Gaarder. I haven’t read it for years but I remember enjoying it very much and plan to re-read it sometime.

My book club was looking for a Christmas book and we voted for The Christmas Bookshop by Jenny Colgan. I do not recommend that (I found it predictable and there were some silly errors in it that should have been edited out).

One of the other suggestions for the book club was Miss Marley (a prequel to A Christmas Carol) and I am planning to read that next.

Wintering is a lovely read. Katherine May

I like Mr Dickens and His Carol by Samantha Silva.
