Does anyone know this time travel series?

I read a series in the late 1980s, possibly very early 90s. It featured time travel, with the main characters going back to correct paradoxes. I’m sure the name “mongoose” was in it, possibly a code name.

I also have some vague notion that the Scarlet Pimpernel was involved in one of the stories, but I may have that mixed up with something else.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Connie Willis has written several books and short stories about time travel from the 90s onwards - Doomsday Book, To Say Nothing Of The Dog, Blackout / All Clear. Could it be any of those?

I don’t think so. The premise is similar, but nothing is ringing any bells. I think they were rather more adventurous than literary, if you see what I mean.

Yes, I didn’t think they were quite right from your description.

I’ve just googled and found a Reddit thread asking for suggestions for books about time travel, which may be worth looking through. Was the book a children’s book or for adults?

Sorry, struggling with posting the link!

On there, someone has suggested the Timewars Series by Simon Hawke, which includes a book called The Pimpernal Plot - could that be the one?

Oh my goodness yes that’s it! Thank you!

Started with the Ivanhoe gambit, pimpernel plot was book 3, early books were good but became a bit of a chew the further they got,

Thank you. I think I read four or five. I’d completely forgotten about them until I stumbled on the Timeless TV series recently. It’s a similar premise.

I love a bit of time travel.
I'm just reading Called Langridge's Mandeville series.
Also loved The Frozen People by Elly Griffiths.

Timeless was a family favourite in our house just for the awfulness.
"Quick let's run to the time capsule" was a particularly good example.
