Hi all,

I'm currently recovering from unexpected surgery and looking for some recommendations of the above. I already have loads of light reading on my kindle and am looking specifically for books that have made you think or had a positive impact on your life. Fiction or non-fiction is fine.

Thanks in advance 🙂

The last lecture by Randy Pausch. A computer science lecturer at an American university. He wrote it to capture his reflections about his life, together with advice and ambitions for his children as he was dying of cancer. Amazing book and I found his advice brilliant.

Mornings in Jenin.
I’ve read it a few times and it’s so impactful and thought provoking.

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig. It’s an excellent read, I was completely gripped and it made me think a lot. Couldn’t put it down. Best wishes for your recovery

Invisible Women by Caroline Criado Perez. Once you have read it you will never unsee the inherent bias towards the male species that is in every part of human life.

Oh! The Places You'll Go! by Dr Seuss.

Such a wonderful book, full of humour and wisdom.

There's a spoken version of it here

Thank you all, have added them all to my list. The Midnight Library was already there but not heard of the others. Am looking forward to getting reading!

Earths Children series by Jean Auel. though it is fiction it is very well researched, and educating from an anthropology POV. I read it years ago but it has continued to influence my travel choices, gave me an interest in visiting prehistorical sites and prehistory exhibitions and museums worldwide, I've visited where it was set in south of France and the cave art there. I doubt I'd have had much of an interest without reading those books initially. It influenced my love of camping and being in nature and gave me a philosophy on human nature. It's not a perfect series but it's probably been the most influential to me.
