Historical Fiction recommendations please?

Good morning all,

I love historical fiction and am looking for recommendations, please. I'm not particularly committed to any time period but would probably not choose Ancient (never been particularly interested) or Tudor (which I do like but have read much too much of recently!). My favourite authors are Mantell, Harris, Boyd etc. What have I missed that you recommend?

Many thanks in advance.

Katherine by Anya Seton set in reigns of Edward III and Richard II

I was going to recommend this one - loved it.

Also recommend Sarum and London by Edward Rutherfurd - was not so keen on his other ones.

I have to say that the trailers on the BBC for the upcoming series King and Conqueror (Coming Soon: King & Conqueror - BBC iPlayer) look very good. James Norton as King Harold (maybe could get some advertisements for Optrex off the back of it)...

Coming Soon: King & Conqueror

A clash that defined a country, and a continent, for a thousand years. The epic story of 1066 and the brutal battle for a kingdom. Starring James Norton and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.

Katherine by Anita Seton I read and loved fifty years ago and have never been without a copy since. Many of the authors mentioned in this thread have written exceptionally readable novels on most of the Plantagenet Kings and Queens. I would like to mention Cynthia Harrod Eagles who has written the Morland series which includes over thirty novels. Her books follow a Yorkshire family and start back very much in the time of the beginnings of the War of the Roses. Each novel although not about the reigning monarchs etc of the time in fact cover most of the political and revolutionary happenings in the country and elsewhere. The family members are touched of course by major events, Trafalgar, Waterloo, the French Revolution and so it goes. I found them very enjoyable.

One of the obvious series is Poldark! Especially the first 4, after that the quality isn't as good.
