I’m trying to remember the title of a book I read

The narrator is a woman who leaves home, seemingly leaving behind her young child. All through the book she refers to a dog that was killed by a car.

The twist is it was really the child who was killed and she is referring to the dog all along.

Does anyone know the book I’m talking about?

Yes. It sounds familiar. I'll see if I can find it on my bookshelves.

Is it Call of the Undertow by Linda Cracknell?
Set in a remote Scottish coastal village and there's a weird misfit boy she keeps coming across...
I found it very haunting.

Sounds like The Dog Ray

BasketOfJoy · 01/06/2025 16:03

No, neither of those.

One Step too Far by Tina Seskis?

I'm interested to find out what it is, this is the closest I've been able to get. Following and bumping incase you do eventually find it!
ETA: 'Sometimes I lie' and the woman is called Amber? Incase pic doesn't show for a while.

Glad I could help :-) I remembered the story perfectly but forgot the title so just looked it up on my Kindle. Great story, I often still think about it.
