Sorry I don’t have much to go on. But 2/3 years ago I think, a book came out which I really liked the sound of. I thought I’d marked it in goodreads or saved it in my wishlist but it’s not there. It’s about a woman whose father dies and she goes to his home to sort through his things. They’d had a bad relationship before he passed and she finds herself discovering things about him, his life, possibly her life, as she sorts through his things.
I’ve tried to google but all it comes up with is non fiction books about grief.
Would really appreciate any help if anyone knows what I’m talking about.

Thanks so much for searching that up for me. I feel like it isn’t any of them but maybe I’ve remembered it incorrectly and made up something in my head which doesn’t exist. The first one sounds most likely to be what I saw but I thought it was more lit fic than thriller.
I do love the sound of The Sorrows of an American so I might read that instead!

It sounds like it could be something Kate Morton would write. I'll have a search.

Your description reminded me of Ruth Hogan’s The Keeper of Lost Things although it doesn’t fit perfectly 🤔

The Road to Lichfield by Penelope Lively ? The father isn't dead but in care home. She discovers things about her father but I can't remember what! 🤔

Could it be The Clearing by Samantha Clark? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Clearing-memoir-family-mental-health/dp/

Fun Home by Alison Bechdel

This one, mentioned above, is a graphic comic memoir and is brilliant, well worth a read even if it's not the one you are looking for. It's by the woman who drew the cartoon that inspired the Bechdel test.
