I have been reading through a lot of the book threads and also recommended books online and so many of them seem to be harrowing stories. I am not interested in anything like that.
i like thrillers, I like horror. Not into love stories. Just want something gripping that isn’t nasty and about abuse, neglect and violence. Do they exist?
Thanks!

I am massively overworked at the moment and all my brain is coping with when I have some downtime are the Jack Reacher books by Lee Child. There’s a lot of violence in them, but the plots are very ‘good guys triumph/bad guys get what they deserve!’

My best friends exorcist and southern book club by Grady Hendrix

the theme of that book is the Yorkshire ripper- not a spoiler- and things that happen to other characters aren’t nice either 🤔

Nancy Mitford, Jilly Cooper, PG Wodehouse. Heartwarming and funny.

It's hard to think of a horror book that isn't "nasty" (isn't that kind of the point of horror?). How about M R James. He wrote ghost stories/horror but it's often a slow burn – beautifully written, wonderful settings and creepy without being too horrific. If you know nothing about him, watch the Mark Gatiss documentary on Youtube. It's brilliant.

Yes- I saw that and binned that idea. I am currently listening to piransei and haven’t got a bloody clue what is going on- apart from nothing.
