Gripping thrillers for a long haul flight?

I might need to take a long haul flight this week or next to see a close family member who is ill. I’ll be in need of distraction and wondering if anyone has recommendations for very gripping thrillers? I love Lisa Jewell, Gillian McAllister, Jane Casey, Liane Moriarty so looking for something along those lines. Thank you!

Sun Damage by Sabine Durrant was probably the best twisty turny thriller that I read in 2024.

I Am Pilgrim was great and quite long so perfect for a long haul flight.

American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins is a page-turner

Yiayoula · 08/01/2025 16:39

It’s not newly out , and has been dramatised on Netflix - BUT if you haven’t read/seen it already , I recommend The Chestnut Man by Sòren Sveistrup.

Chris Carter or M W Craven.

Anything by B A Paris, Kathryn Croft and Jo Spain’s older books (anything before 2022!), Andrea Mara. Enjoy op!!

I immediately thought of I am Pilgrim, but American Dirt also good.

Another “Scandi Noir” ( love them 🥰 ) I’d suggest is The Mirror Man by Lars Kepler.

The Girl on the Train

ChessieFL · 08/01/2025 17:39

Robert Galbraith’s Strike series.

Ooh haven’t read the others but I tore through a bunch of Andrea Mara’s recently, she’s brilliant

Bill Clinton’s collaborations with James Patterson, or Hilary’s novel cowritten with Louise Penny. Both kept me hooked.

I’m really enjoying my first Shari Lapena, The End Of Her. It’s easy to read in terms of fairly short chapters and although I’ve nearly finished it, it’s keeping me guessing.

Night watching - really good creepy twisty and i couldn't predict where it was going - dying for someone to read it to discuss!!

Its starts of really well, I was totally gripped, i found the last part of the book to be a real disappointment.

Sid9nie · 12/02/2025 17:26

Erin Kelly - The Skeleton Key. All of hers are good I think, but this is the GOAT.

OMGitsnotgood · 12/02/2025 17:31

Have you read any John Grisham? Largely have a legal theme (he used to be a lawyer) but love his books.

I also like Patricia Cornwell's books eg tbe Kay Scarpetta series

Keen to read Behind Closed Doors myself. I don't know if I mentioned this but I started reading None of This is True by Lisa Jewell.

It's funny how we are so different. I read people on MN loved it but it's just nothing like her earlier books. I knew what she's writing these days yet I was still hoping to read about likeable and messy characters, but this wasn't it.
