I've been reading these for 2ish years, taking a break between each series because I wanted to prolong them.

On the last 3 now and about 70% through Fool's Assassin. I'm braced for how I think the entire series may end.

Anyone read all 16 books?

Fitz is my favourite character. He reminds me a bit of Derfel from The Winter King trilogy which were my favorite until I discovered Hobb.

I reread this books pretty much every other year. I started as a teen and still come back to them. Luckily I have a shit memory, and enjoy good writing, so rereading is a treat.
I do not want to say anything bad about the conclusion to the series, except I have to admit that I am disappointed that it came to a conclusion. No spoilers.
Enjoy the books!

Weyohweyoh · 31/12/2024 12:17

Absolutely my favourite. Have read all 16 multiple times!

Marmite27 · 31/12/2024 12:20

I read all 16 at the beginning of 2024, the threads that run though all of the book are a master piece IMO.

I started reading the assassin trilogy in 2004, I’ve re-read the trilogy’s upto the golden fool set a few times.

This is my favourite book series.

EveInEden · 31/12/2024 13:18

After this I might re read all of the 9 with Fitz straight through.

Don't miss out the Rain Wilds ones - they don't feel like it, but they are pivotal to Fitz and the Fool's story!

Ladylangstrand · 31/12/2024 14:05

Love this series, enjoy!

I've read them all. Just on Fitz and the Fool now.

I keep looking at these so I think I'll consider getting them now.

Echobelly · 31/12/2024 17:31

I've just finished the Rain Wild Chronicles, which is perhaps the weakest of the 'subsets' but still a great read. Some of the books are better than others, but I do love her cast of characters and the way you see them develop over time - takes a lot of skill to do that.

MonOncle · 31/12/2024 19:11

Just finished the first book, Assassin’s Apprentice, after hearing so much praise for the series on TikTok. Really enjoyed it but I’ll probably drop the next ones in between other books as I can quite easily let a book series take over my life!

EveInEden · 02/01/2025 18:09

Now 20% through Fool's Quest. They're going too fast. I love he's a terrible over thinker.

Just finished book 15. Now on the last one, Assasian's Fate. I'm feeling sad I've nearly finished them.

I’m onto Royal Assassin now and enjoying it a lot. You really fall in love with the characters. When I bought it in Waterstones the staff member told me how much she loved Robin Hobb. 💚

PurpleThistle7 · 20/01/2025 10:17

I absolutely love the Liveship and Rain Wilds series but didn't get as into the ones that focus more on one character. This is inspiring me to try again - will see if I can just read them all in order and maybe it will be better for me.

oatmy · 20/01/2025 10:20

I read them all last year (had read some but not all before). A wonderful experience! Can't wait to re-read them in a few year's time. She is a genius. The only problem is that it's hard to find anything else that comes close.

Joterrin · 20/01/2025 10:24

Yes, I love these entire series, I met Robin Hobb at a book signing, obviously not her real name & she was wonderful.
Hobb has created a wonderful world & linked series.
I enjoy re-reading them. i discovered Jackie Morris who did the art work for the early editions who is a wonderful artist.

CoubousAndTourmalet · 20/01/2025 10:25

I've finally completed our collection! We already had the Farseer Trilogy and Liveship Traders, but I've added the Tawny Man, Fitz and the Fool and Rain Wild, so now I can read them all in sequence.

Raymond E Feist’s Magician Series I find on par & David & Leigh Eddings - Belgariad & Malloreon series with the extra books too.
I also enjoy Garth Nix’s Abhorsen Trilogy well
its a few more books now.

Love Jackie Morris! We have a framed JM print on our living room wall. I have my own big white bear (Pyrenean girl) so her work means a lot to me.

When I first came across Robin Hobb I realised I'd already read her as Megan Lindholm, years before. Wolf's Brother and The Reindeer people. I'm sure we still have them, I should probably revisit them.

mossylog · 20/01/2025 10:36

I really enjoyed the Live Ship Traders trilogy, I was engrossed in the different interwining storylines and the world really expanded out.

While I like them, I often feel with the Fitz books that a third of the time the actual plot is happening somewhere else but the perspective has to stay with Fitz so we just get to see him moping about for a few chapters waiting for things to happen.

inaptonym · 20/01/2025 13:47

I've loved these books since at least Yr 8 (maths teacher confiscated Royal Assassin which I'd been reading under the table) and despite all the trauma and suffering I still find them oddly cosy to reread - maybe because of the time and space devoted to slice-of-life detail (or nothing happening, fair comment @mossylog !) Reliably engrossing even when I know perfectly well what's going to happen. Liveships is my favourite trilogy overall #Maltawasmisunderstood

I liked the one Megan Lindholm I've read and need to track down some more. Found her Soldier Son books so dreary, though.
