Hi, I'm looking for suggestions on what books to get my daughter to encourage her to enjoy reading more.
She's 13 (14 in Feb) & used to be quite an advanced reader at primary school, but since she just doesn't show much interest and I'd like to encourage her and I'm aware that finding the right book is key to this.
She has recently finished a book I bought her a couple of years ago (the embarrassing life of lottoe brookes) & has picked a subsequent book in this range from the school library, however I feel these maybe a bit young for her but unsure what or where to start with moving on from these?
She said she doesn't like murder mystery style (not that she's read any), not Harry Potter (again hasn't really read them & I think the film put her off years ago, thanks to her dad).
She said she quite likes diary style books, but I feel she needs to expand from these (unless I'm wrong)
Any suggestions would be most welcome.
Thanks.

Any reading is good reading.

It doesn't matter if a book is too young, reading for pleasure is the goal - I read DDs Percy Jackson series, I'm definitely not the intended audience but they were enjoyable and brilliantly written.

DD doesn't enjoy novels but likes poetry and playscripts. Short Stories like Roald Dahl's collection are a win. Too although obviously he can be problematic.

Skullduggery Pleasant is often a hit with that age group. She may enjoy autobiographies so get her some about inspirational people.

Noel Strreatfiled - Ballet shoes and Tennis Shoes

The best way to make her not a reader is to discourage her from reading the books she enjoys. I read stuff that's 'too young' for me, why does it matter? Let her choose her own books.

I second Jacqueline Wilson - my dd loved the Tracey Beaker and Hetty Feather books. I loved the Sweet Valley High (when they're older and in high school) series and Judy Blume at that age - Id recommend "Deenie" and "are you there God, it's me, Margaret" . "Forever" was my favourite but that has sex and losing virginity etc in it so maybe for a bit older? DD read all my old copies and enjoyed them.

The Percy Jackson books are a great read. Like others I'd not discourage her from reading 'young' books. Reading should be a pleasure.

Hunger Games perfect for girls lots of violence and action and Katniss is cool. Diary of a Wimpy Kid is very successful and the reading age despite what everyone on mumsnet thinks us actually quite high.
Manga? Again violence and romance. And yes to Sweet Valley High! I'm 58 and I love Percy Jackson as well!
