Hello!

Long haul flight coming up and looking for some books to download...

I don't like sci-fi, chick lit, tacky romance, autobiographies...
I've read a lot of James Herbert which I've enjoyed, but they became a bit predictable, similar to the Alex Cross type series of books.
I like gritty crime, plot twists, needs to be fast paced to keep me interested.

Any recommendations please?

If you’re not looking for anything too challenging, I find most things written by Frieda McFadden (best known for The Housemaid series) very easy to read and fast paced. It’s not going to win the Booker Prize but good for a holiday read.

I also like Kate Ellis’s stuff. She weaves a modern crime with a historical one. Again, easy reading. Finally, a personal favourite is Rachel Abbot. She writes the Tom Douglas series of books but has some good stand alone novels too. Again, all crime/psychological thriller type stuff.

Martina Cole's books sound like they might fit the bill. I've read a few of hers over the years. My favourites are The Take and Dangerous Lady.

Val McDermid? Loved the Tony Hill series. Very gritty.

I love both these authors.

Kate Atkinson Jackson Brodie

Elly Griffiths Ruth Galloway

Also Sara Paretsky and Sue Grafton, though they may seem dated, the character development is brilliant.

Don’t overlook the classics. Agatha Christie and Sherlock Holmes are still loved and admired for a reason. Nothing beats the test of time. If books have been read and enjoyed by several generations, you know they’re good.

The Strike series

I've recently finished Zero Risk by Simon Hayes, possibly my favourite book this year. Its a financial thriller set at Christmas this year. I never thought I’d enjoy a book with "financial" in the description. But I'll never stop recommending it.

I just finished The Couple at No 9 by Claire Douglas and really enjoyed it. Prior to that I read The Wrong Sister by the same author which was equally as good!

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I read it as a physical book, it was weighty!
And if you hate it then sorry!

Three Hours - Rosemary Lupton

Hostage - Claire Macintosh - superb thriller but it is about hostages on a plane…

The Hide - Nell Paterson

Patrick fisher mysteries - Steve Higgs - superb cozy mystery series if you want something a bit lighter
