Hi, I hope it’s ok for me to ask this here … if there is a more appropriate location please feel free to let me know and I’ll ask Mumsnet to help me move it (I also contemplated the TV/Movie board….?!)

Anyway! The past 2-3 years the only podcast I’ve listened to has been No Such Thing As A Fish - the podcast by the QI (the tv show hosted by Stephen Fry) elves. It’s excellent- interesting and funny and highly entertaining- I’d recommend anyone to try it.

Anyway, I’ve almost listened to the entire back catalogue and only have another dozen or so episodes remaining. So I am planning ahead to find something new to listen to! Does anyone please have any recommendations for a show that is ideally light hearted, witty and interesting? Thank you very much!

Help I sexted my boss or My Dad Wrote a Porno for lighthearted and funny

something less lighthearted but v good - British Scandal, Sweet Bobby, A Very British Cult

TheMixedGirl · 15/11/2024 21:00

Following with interest. Sweet Bobby is good. Also, serial about the adnan syed case is excellent. Really depends if you want funny or serious or just an assortment. X

I love no such thing as a fish! It's the first podcast I ever subscribed and I now listen every week!
I would also recommend Evil Genius. Hosted by Russel Kane. He takes a figure from history, drops 3 'fact bombs' on 3 comedians and at the end of the show they have to decide if that person is evil or genius. Really interesting and really funny.
You're Dead To Me is another favourite of mine. A history/comedy podcast hosted by Greg Jenner. They have a historian guest and a comedian talking about a particular historical subject, era or person. Interesting and funny, much like NSTAAF.
It's A Fair Cop is another favourite of mine. Alfie Moore, former police officer takes his audience through a real life crimes and gets them to make policing decisions - much funnier than it sounds. This one is only on BBC Sounds app.

You could try 'The Rest is Entertainment' - Richard Osman and Marina Hyde talking about the entertainment industry. Very lighthearted and funny. I enjoy it.

The infinite monkey cage on bbc sounds is good. Science/comody hosted by Dr Brian Cox and lots of back episodes and series.

Sunshineandrainbow · 16/11/2024 13:32

Sorry if this is Stupid question but where are podcasts available apart from bbc sounds.

Blind Boy podcasts. Fascinating subjects with twists and turns in his stories. Have yet to listen to all of them, but great for walking.

Spotify has podcasts too. I tend to like interesting life stories. I’ve been listening to Young Again, with Kirsty Young, but my recent favourite was Strangers On A Bench.

NutsandPuffs · 23/11/2024 04:05

Thank you everyone who contributed to this! I have now changed from being sad to get to the “end” of No such thing as a fish and now instead I am excited to discover all these news fantastic shows!

The rest is history

Bjorkdidit · 30/11/2024 05:49

Second most of these but I could never get on with My Dad Wrote a Porno. I think I missed what the joke was supposed to be. But I have subscriptions to more podcasts than I have time to listen to so it doesn't matter.

I started listening to My Mate Bought a Toaster after seeing it recommended on here - conversations between (mostly) comedians going through their Amazon purchase history. Loads of back catalogue so I'd recommended downloading a few featuring people you like to try it out.

But seeing as you've posted on 'what we're reading' OP I take it you like books? If so, I think one of my favourite podcasts is Sara and Cariad's Weirdos Book Club where they talk about books.

Ohyeahwaitaminute · 30/11/2024 07:22

@Bjorkdidit - love the idea behind My Mate Bought a Toaster. Brilliant concept. Will give them a go. (Now wondering what my purchase history tells Amazon!)

Tintackedsea · 30/11/2024 08:11

Radio Addicts board regularly has this question so have a look on there.

Cautionary Tales is excellent and sounds like it might be your thing.

tobee · 22/12/2024 03:25

There used to be a dedicated podcast board on here. Has it disappeared? I thought it was with films and tv? Can't see it right now

tobee · 22/12/2024 03:25

Ah! Just looked again and it's with radio addicts now!

tobee · 22/12/2024 03:27

Which is a subsection of Fun and Games. Slightly confusing catch all title 🤨
