Books for Christmas gifts?

Has anyone got any recommendations for Christmas gift book giving this year? I am looking for my father-in-law, who enjoys nonfiction like The Wager, by David Grann, and my mother-in-law who likes fiction (fairly highbrow) and nonfiction (she also enjoyed The Wager). They're American, so would prefer new releases by British authors, to reduce the risk of them having already read them!
Also, what's on your list? I usually ask for the latest Stephen King or Grady Hendrix but they don't have anything coming up before Christmas, I think. Would appreciate ideas!

Too early? Got good advice here last year, so hopeful bump!

the new Ian Rankin, Robert `Harris or Michael Connelly. all on my list.
Something a bit different for the in laws would be Adam Macqueen’s haunted Tales.
I tend to give people The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese or Gentleman in Moscow by Amos Towles.

Good call re Amor Towles - MIL is a fan and has read all! I find Harris a bit hit or miss - will look into Connelly. Haunted Tales might be good for me...!

Would you MIL enjoy a selection of the British Women Writer novels that have been re-published by the British Library. They are very attractively presented too.
Or maybe a selection of Persephone books.

I recently enjoyed "Rare Singles" by Benjamin Myers and "Shy Creatures" by Clare Chambers.

I usually ask for a few from the booker shortlist and if any of my favourite authors have new releases I'll ask for them. On my list this year I have:

the new Robert Harris (precipice I think)
Orbital by Samantha Harvey (booker shortlist)
Creation lake by Rachel kushner (booker)
The safe keep by Yael van der wouden (booker)
Death at the sign of the rook (Kate Atkinson- although is the next in a series)
Secret hours by mick Herron

If he likes books about the sea then "Down to the Sea in Ships" by Horatio Clare might be worth a look. It's about the shipping industry, I was gripped. Unusual topic for me but fascinating.

And if she likes British authors how about "Bourneville" by Jonathan Coe?

Slightly offbeat perhaps but James Rebanks's latest book A Place of Tides is excellent. Non fiction, the last of the women to collect feathers for down in Norway. But so much more than that. It was only published in October but I'm already wanting to read it again.

For your MIL another vote for Persephone books, they are beautiful in their own right.

Or (if it's still going) a subscription to Slightly Foxed. I had that once as a gift and loved it.

Wow, thanks for all the suggestions! I will research them all...!

If they have an interest in the UK in terms of travel, history, geography, topology, and culture, consider Lisa Woolett's Lost to the Sea: A Journey Round the Edges of Britain and Ireland - it takes the shape of a modern day travelogue and interrogates the history and cultural significance of the places she visits. I'm in the USA and it's very under the radar here; had to jump through hoops to get a copy.

I really loved this very cute book I bought called "Dont forget to tip: uber stories that go the extra mile" :). I gave it also to someone who is a taxi driver. It was refreshing to read it just in one quick sitting!
