I finished the book I was reading at the weekend (Fairy Tale - Stephen King). It was a bit of a slog as SK + no visual imagination to benefit from his scene setting is a lot to get through (although the best I've read this year!) and I feel like I've hit a bit of a wall.

This is my current TBR pile. I think I need a pacy twisty book next. Any recommendations from this lot?

I'll take any recommendations in general tbh! Usually a psychological thriller reader, trying to chuck in the odd classic, with the odd palate cleanser thrown in too.

If you'd like to try a classic for a change, The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins is a gripping story with plenty of twists.

I Am Pilgrim - you will crack through it. Recommend it to everyone.

Demon Copperhead was good but a bit of a miserable, long read - I felt a bit exhausted after it and I would only recommend to certain readers.

Found Verity a bit meh.

Everyone Here I Lying - a bit overhyped but ok.

Def not Rock Paper Scissors.

Not read The Retreat but just finished another of his - Follow Me Home - and it was quite good. A quick read, only took me a day to finish and was a bit of a cross between a creepy horror and a thriller type thing.

I've gone with Everyone Here is Lying and have rattled through the first 3 chapters sat in the car whilst waiting for an appointment this morning.

Also just had a delivery containing Pet Semetary, the Shining and the Outsider. Only about 7 more shelves to fill on the new bookcase 😆 will have a look at some of the other recommendations on goodreads too!

C L Taylor
Every Move you Make.
Her latest.
Recommended by Richard and Judy's book club.
I adore all her books.
My favourite are psychological thrillers too.

Great choice.. I've read that one...some of my favourite psychological authors are KL Slater.
CL Slater.
Mark Edwards.

I loved I Am Pilgrim but I think it needs a long flight, beach or similar intensive amount of time available.

I loved Demon Copperhead! I thought Verity was so bad it was funny though.

I work stupid hours and have a small autistic adhd child, I guess I'm never reading that then! 😂

I have been toying with the idea of attending a silent book club though...

I have only resumed reading this year after a loooong break after having had the aforementioned whirlwind child. I don't think I ever did actually finish the book I was reading whilst I was in labour! It was a Mark Edwards book that I started back up with.

What did you decide to read OP? Was it good? I’ve just finished the Lisa Jewell one. It was really gripping but I felt it less so towards the end and I’m not sure why. I will read others by her though as on the whole I enjoyed it. Now I need my next read so I’ve come back to this thread for inspiration as we seem to have similar taste!

I'm struggling to get into the book I'm reading at the moment. Might abandon it and read some of these. Have added the samples to my kindle. Some good suggestions :)

@ShillyShallySherbet I went for the Shari Lapena book and it was just what I needed at that time - easy reading that kept me guessing. I'd give it a 3.5/5 overall but I enjoyed it!

Now on The Defence (Steve Cavanagh) which is shaping up to be a bit meatier.

Maybe we need a "psychological thrillers read, review and recommend" thread!
