If an author of a non-fiction book has a 'foreign' name would you assume it wasn't a book written for the UK market/ wouldn't apply to you so much?

I'm writing a non-fiction book and am really curious about this because I have a 'foreign' name (although I'm actually British - surname is dh's). Would you look at a say a self-help book, see a foreign sounding author's name and wonder whether it was a written from a British perspective or perhaps was from another country?
Either consciously or sub-consciously do you think it would affect whether you would buy it or not?

I prefer to buy books written from a British perspective in case of cultural differences.

I'm just curious as to whether this would affect things.

I would be more swayed by the other information - title, claims it makes etc.

What is your book about?

harpomarx · 21/04/2008 21:10

not at all

always look at cover blurb and skim through book before buying

that would make it clear where the author was from.

don't think i would mind if the author was foreign anyway, so long as they were talking sense!

but i have never read a self help book, if this is really the genre you are writing in.

no- would read the sleeve notes & back page.book title appeals more than author status/nationality. i also google or amazon reviews.

Sounds like I'm being a bit paranoid then - thanks for the reassurance.

My first book is a guide to baby products. It comes out in the Autumn.
Only just started the second one....
