Borrowed this from the library and only a few chapters in. It's not bad on historical detail. I didn't know about the time her family spent in Jordan when they were kids, for example.

But the author is already talking about 'her first boyfriend' at Marlborough and naming him. How the hell would they know? It's complimentary towards the Princess but still feels slightly grimy.

Just read Tina Brown's "The Palace Papers" and it seems a bit more factual and less speculative. Tina sure did her research- approx 500 pages plus almost 100 more on footnotes/index.

Anyone else reading it? No way would I want my whole life and every person I've ever associated with being put into print, but I guess it's par for the course.

It’s put into print because people buy/borrow the books. No demand, no books.

Surely it can’t be very interesting? Bland, well-behaved, generic young woman becomes bland, generic, well-behaved Duchess then Princess, who is likely to make an excellent future queen if we judge excellence according to dressing appropriately and never saying anything?

But I like books about The Firm! And British history in general.

Even with these modern books, there's info on the more historical figures like Queen Mary & the Queen Mother, for example. Maybe people become more interesting when they're dead.

I agree with @IntheVicinity . I don't wish her any harm but surely there is not that much to tell about her? Sounds very dull.

Yes, so far it is a tad dull.

She's not history yet. She might be more interesting in 100 years.

Monarchists should be happy people are reading such books. I like history but wouldn't mind see the lot of them go. As an Aussie I'd choose a Republic if I could. But the whole background is fascinating.

She’s definitely not going to become anymore interesting when she’s dead. She’s so dull.

She's only 40 - a bit young to have her biography written in my opinion. Hopefully she will have at least another 40 years on the planet.
