Yes! I am that girl... I absolutely LOVE dramatic, potentially predictable books!!

I'm running out of books atm.

Please throw some suggestions at me

Romance
Dark dramatic twists welcome!
I do love a Christmas book... Any time of year 😂😂.

Here are 4 Christmas books that I've read and enjoyed this year.
White Christmas on Winter Street and The Christmas Love Letters - both by Sue Moorecroft , Finding Love at the Christmas Market by Jo Thomas and Christmas at the Island Hotel by Jenny Colgan.
Also the Little Swiss Ski chalet by Julie Caplin has that cosy feel! Love to find a group where I'm not embarrassed about my book choices!!

Marion Keyes is brilliant - there’s always depth to what she writes about.
Jenny Colgan is great.

If you want ‘woman escapes disastrous life, moves to hot place, unites the locals against a common enemy and falls in love with the grumpy orchard/vineyard/lemon grove owner’, Jo Thomas’ books are for you.

Eva Rice.

OP, why not start your own Chick Lit book club?

It’s rubbish that your group was snobby to you. I bet you’d get some takers, and you could have snacks/cocktails/mocktails etc.

I used to love running my group.

Would also recommend Milly Johnson as well as Heidi Swain, Cathy Kelly, Helen Rolfe, Karen Swan and Penny Vincenzi.

Love a good chick lit book at times, nice easy reads.

Take a look at Joffe Books website. As well as new publications of their own, they seem to have taken on backlists of a number of writers and publishers, including Choc Lit. Choc Lit published a lot of chick lit or contemporary and historical romance, some of it a little bit quirky.

They offer a lot of books quite cheaply, but also offer a freebie book or two most days, or bargain "box sets" - these include other genre fiction as well - crime, espionage, historical fiction, but they seem to be reissuing most of the Choc Lit list.

Writers I've particularly enjoyed - lots of them but I especially like Jane Lovering (mentioned above) and Sue Moorcroft.

Another suggestion: Jo Thomas - a lot of her characters are 30s, 40s, 50s - and some of the writers I first read in my 20s also write about women who are growing up with their authors and readers - I sometimes call this "henlit". The women in Jo Thomas's books have mostly gone to visit or live in a new place, mostly in Europe - France, Spain, Italy, Cyprus - and learn about the people, places and businesses there. With a love interest thrown in.

And another recommendation, Rowan Coleman.

BellaBionda · 19/09/2024 12:35

I like Lianne Moriarty. Is she Chick Lit? I love What Alice Forgot especially.

Jellycatrabbit · 19/09/2024 12:37

Lucy Dillon and Lucy Diamond- I get them confused but both are great.
Ruth Jones- Us Three was fab.

As others have mentioned
Milly Johnson (A Spring Affair is her best imo)
Katie Fforde
Marian Keyes - prefer her older stuff and Y to PP re Rachel's Holiday

Have you seen Jacqueline Wilson released an adult book, I'm thinking that might be up my street too.

BettyButtercup · 19/09/2024 12:44

I'm really enjoying Mhairi Mcfarlane at the moment, and Beth O'Leary - they turned one of her books, The Flatshare, into a TV series if you've seen that?

EllieQ · 19/09/2024 12:56

I just read The Friend Zone Experiment by Zen Cho, which was an entertaining romance/ drama with some chick—lit moments 😊

Another Sophie Kinsella fan here. The Undomestic Goddess is my favourite. I've been unwell and have basically read back-to-back Sophie Kinsella for nearly 2 months. Finished all the ones I own and am getting some from the library plus moving on to the Madeline Wickhams (her real name). Shopaholic is hilarious and there is even a Christmas one.

Also love Georgette Heyer though I wouldn't quite call her chick lit. Historical romances, though, and also funny.

Other authors mentioned: Jane Green, JoJobMoyes, Marian Keyes... My Mum lent me the call of the penguins 🐧 and also has a couple set in a cafe which she says are extremely predictable but good light reading.

Also not Chick Lit but easy light reading: PG Wodehouse. More than just Jeeves & Wooster.

Just finished The Burnout by Sophie Kinsella and thought it was very engaging.
