Hi everyone,

I normally read thrillers/mystery's but next year I really want to read different books. Does anyone have any books to recommend me that changed their minds in regards to different genres? I don't mind if they're mystery/thrillers either! I want to read one book a month at least.just looking for peoples recommendations of the best books they've ever read.

Hit me up please!

I have really enjoyed
The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store by James McBride- there is a mystery but it's much more about a poor community in 1930's America .
The Dictionary of Lost Words and The Bookbinder of Jericho by Pip Williams - A fictionalised account of the compilation of The Oxford English Dictionary set in early 20th Century Oxford.
The Sealwoman's Gift by Sally Magnusson - a beautifully written story about 17th century Iceland and Algiers.
How about a non fiction book? Ashes to Admin by Evie King is by someone who arranges funerals for people who die alone without any immediate family-not as depressing as it sounds!
Also A Fortunate Woman by Polly Moorland about 2 GP's working in a rural community a generation apart.

I loved Project Hail Mary, I Am Pilgrim, the Pillars of the Earth series, and the early Game of Thrones (and am currently quite liking the Court of Thorns & Roses series but not finished yet). My usual go to is a mystery/thriller, but the above were quite different and I often recommend them.

I find that a wonder round the library inspires me to try books I would not normally pick up. Plus if it's rubbish you can return it. I'm currently reading The Karamazov Brothers - Dostoevsky. It's very long, but I can't put it down. I also read The Child - Fiona Barton, whilst on holiday and really enjoyed it along with Time to Say Goodbye - SD Robertson.
