What else would I love please?

Trying to fill the void that finishing book series with beloved characters leaves.

The Mick Herron Slow Horses books? Christopher Brookmyre? Belinda Bauer? All great books but I don’t particularly read series. Hopefully you’ll get some more suggestions for those.

Have you read the Percy Jackson books, I know they are for children but they are very well written and the mythology in them is interesting.

Kate Atkinsons Jackson Brodie series or Pat McDiarmids Karen Pirie Series - I enjoyed both of these as well as the Strike books (hated Thursday Murder club though)

redtrain123 · 28/08/2024 15:05

Patricia Fisher series - Steve Higgs, good cozy mystery series

stayathomer · 28/08/2024 15:09

For a kooky one try Fiona Leitch’s Cornish Murder series, or else I’d say Graham Norton’s books or the Maid by Nina potell. (All different but similar iykwim!!!)

ChessieFL · 28/08/2024 15:09

Jane Casey’s Maeve Kerrigan series.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 28/08/2024 15:15

I've just started Jane Casey's Maeve Kerrigan series. Crime. DC in the Met Police. Starts with The Burning and goes from there. Nicely filling the Strike shaped hole.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 28/08/2024 15:15

Haha Jinx @ChessieFL

I adore the Thursday Murder Club books, I don't want them to end so I ration them! RO is a clever man. I believe he's about to release a new book soon. I'm trying Richard Coles books but I have to be honest, as much as I like the Rev in person, I'm finding his prose a bit slow. I've read a couple of the QE II murder mysteries by Sophia Bennett. They're OK, a bit lightweight maybe. Fiona Leitch's Cornish mysteries are quite good too, might be worth a go. Finally you may like MC Beaton's Agatha Raisin books - there are stacks and stacks of those to keep you going!

Lisa Regan - Josie Quinn series.

UpTheMagicFarawayTree · 28/08/2024 15:30

Elly Griffiths writes the Dr Ruth Galloway books which are very good.

Sparkletastic · 28/08/2024 15:34

Have you tried the Ian Rankin Rebus books? Grittier but equally great.

AuntieDolly · 28/08/2024 15:38

Hawthorn series by Anthony Horowitz

TheWayOfTheWorld · 28/08/2024 16:13

Lots of good suggestions (Dr Ruth Galloway, Rebus). Also the Hawthorne series by Anthony Horowitz (think there's 4 books now).

I'm also re-reading Agatha Christie.

TheWayOfTheWorld · 28/08/2024 16:13

Sorry @AuntieDolly, didn't see your reply 🙈

Elly Griffiths writes the Dr Ruth Galloway books which are very good.

I know loads of people addicted to Elly Griffiths books and they are generally readers of Richard Osman, etc. Luckily, there are lots of them - although it can get a bit samey.

Marlow Murder Club series by Robert Thorogood (who wrote Death in Paradise - there are some DIP books he has written too not read them yet...). Far prefer Marlow Murder Club to Thursday MC series, I think Richard Osman has hammered the same formula too hard and they're boringly on repeat now.

Marlow Murder Club has 3 books so far, 4th for release next year. ( First book televised on Drama u.co.uk/shows/the-marlow-murder-club/watch-online, with Samantha Bond playing a superb Judith Potts)

IdgieThreadgoodeIsMyHeroine · 04/09/2024 17:26

Another vote for the Marlow Murder Club series by Robert Thorogood, Hawthorne series by Anthony Horowitz and Jackson Brodie series by Kate Atkinson.

AlviarinAesSedai · 06/09/2024 17:44

DCI Ryan series by L J Ross are really good and set in North East England.

HarpyBirthday · 07/09/2024 12:15

Jane Harper's Aaron Falk series - set in Australian outback.
