Fantasy fans, recommend me a book!

I used to read a lot of fantasy when I was younger and quite fancy a bit of escapism now. I don't mind straightforward swords 'n' sorcery but needs to be reasonably intelligent and have good characters. Not so keen on SF.

Authors I have enjoyed: Tad Williams, Stephen Donaldson, Weis & Hickman (I was obsessed with Dragonlance as a teen), Hugh Cook, Tolkien, Philip Pullman...

Also read mists of avalon in the 80's (dating mlyself) and was blown away and I am not a big fantasy read. Echo the recommendation.

Anyone else read The Lies of Locke Lamora? I'm really enjoying it.

Me too, I really enjoyed it! I'm just about to order the second one, Red Seas Under Red Skies. I've heard it's nowhere near as good as Lies, but I'll give it a go.

Oh, didn't know the second one was out. I will definitely give that a go, too. Even if it's not as good I think I'll probably enjoy it.
