Sorry if this has been done to the death or in the wrong place!...

I haven't read for pleasure at all this year and with term about to re-start I want to catch up on all the amazing reads I've missed in the past year or so.. So please, if you would, help me get back on track and give me your best reads from 2023-24!😍

Do you mean the best if the books we've read in 23/24 or the best if the books we've read that have been published in 23/24?

If it's the former my list is:

French Braid by Anne Tyler

The Holiday by TM Logan

Blood & Beauty by Sarah Dunant (I'm a bit gutted I've finished the series)

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

Digging to America by Anne Tyler

Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert

Twilight Shepherd by John Oakstone which is a practical guide to dealing with DParents as they age

Rebel Ideas by Mathew Syed

Wavewalker by Suzanne Heywoid

The latter ideally but thank you for your list! I'm definitely going to look those up...

It does depend what you're into. But some of the literary fiction I've really rated over the last year are:
Demon Copperhead - Barbara Kingsolver
Fire Rush - Jacqueline Crooks (especially good on audible)
Foster - Claire Keegan
North Woods - Daniel Mason
All The Little Bird-Hearts - Viktoria Lloyd-Barlow
The Bee Sting - Paul Murray
Soldier Sailor - Claire Kilroy
Kala - Colin Walsh
Brotherless Nights - V V Ganeshantaram
Enter Ghost - Isabelle Hammad
Tom Lake - Ann Patchett
Covenant of Water - Abraham Varghese

I'm largely a non-fiction reader..but Fiction wise I love historicism, anything with an ecology aspect, I'm pretty open really. I'm not a big crime fan, or romance either but if it's part of a bigger idea, I can deal with that... Thank you so much for all recommended so far!

If you like historical novels definitely try the Sarah Durant novel I mentioned.

Hohofortherobbers · 24/08/2024 20:49

In that case I think you may love Anne Patchett's state of Wonder, Barbara Kingsolver's Prodigal summer. William Boyd's Brazzaville Beach.
