I booked a trip there on a whim and would like to get in the mood. I love linking books to places I'm travelling to.
I'm looking for fiction, any genre except historical, lots of description of nature would be a bonus. Thanks Smile

The Hike by Lucy Clarke?

The Harry Hole books by Jo Nesbø. I'd recommend starting with The Redbreast, #3 in the series.

Alberta and Jacob by Cora Sandel. Written about 100 years ago but feels very modern. Follows a teenage girl stifled by her life in northern Norway.

Definitely not for @Draconis but for anyone else who likes historic novels Kristin Lavrandatter by Sigrid Undset, translated by Tiina Nunnally. Winner of the nobel prize for literature this trilogy follows a medieval woman through her life. Absolutely brilliant and I highly recommend this.

For more modern novels:
Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder was a massive best seller when it came out. An introduction to Philosophy in novel form.
Anything by Jon Fosse, Karl Ove Knausgaard, Jo Nesbo.

Thank you!
I actually have The Hike on my bookshelf and didn't even know it was set in Norway Blush so that's one.
I will go and check out the others too.

I really liked The Ice Palace by Tarjei Vesaas. A strange, poetically written novel about a girl who vanishes in a frozen waterfall and the effect it has on her new friend.

There's also The Nesting by CJ Cooke. I didn't think much of it TBH so just mentioning it because you might have different tastes from me. It's about a woman who cons her way into a nannying job with a British family living in Norway. It's a mix of thriller, ghost story and eco horror. Might be ok if you're looking for a really easy holiday read.

Out Stealing Horses by Per Petterson is beautiful.
