Can’t read!!!!

For as long as I can remember I’ve read about 2-3 books a week… sometimes more than one on the go at once. Lately though I’ve developed what I’m calling “readers block”. I can’t concentrate on one. I’m even skim reading newspapers. I have follow on books from series’. I was bought one by my partner the other week.. not even opened it. I used to go to the “donation price books” in the supermarket and scour charity shops, looking for them. I’m just not interested. Any suggestions on why? Or what I can do?? I miss my books!!!!
Im not stressed or depressed. I haven’t been poorly and not much has changed with my own illness/life/work. I am possibly in perimenopause.. Help!!!

Ps. Posted here as I don’t know where else to post it.

Try a short story collection - open at random and read a short one.
Try anything from Roald Dahl (think Tales of the Unexpected type stories, very well done)
Sarah Hall - latest collection v good
Hilary Mantel
Lydia Davis
Lucia Berlin - a manual for cleaning women

Maybe it’s time for something different, you are changing, so your interests are changing too. Try reading something completely different to what you would normally read.

Just little bits.

I know when I’m going though a stressful time, I can’t even read a magazine as I think it’s a waste of time. I’m sure this happens everyone at different stages of their life, try audiobooks or podcasts for now as they are easier on you.

Good luck x

I religiously buy take a break/chat etc every Thursday…. Can’t even read them like I used to. I just think “why am I reading about other peoples lives?”. Maybe I’m just entering a new stage of my life lol!!

Love tales of the unexpected. Beautifully dark!!! This is why I downloaded the illustrated man. I’ve also got a load of true crime books where each chapter is about a different murder….. but it’s quite morbid and don’t think will do my mental wellbeing any good!!! Ordered a few short story books that will suit my little one. Maybe reading with him will help get my reading mojo back, and if it doesn’t at least he’s reading with mummy.

Exactly the same thing happened to me when my marriage broke up. I'd been reading about four books a week and I just...stopped. Couldn't read ANYTHING for a couple of years.

I'm now more than ten years post break up and trying really hard to pick up my extensive reading habit again. I found a good way back 'in' was to re read books I'd already read and knew I loved, then move on to other books that were similar or by the same author. I'd read a few Elly Griffiths Ruth Galloway books, so I hunted down more of those and am now reading the entire series in order. I also started re reading children's books or picking up books that my children were enjoying - I found the less complexity a story had the better for my reading mind.

Also second audio books. I mainly listen to non-fiction now on Audible, but it's all reading!
