For those who’ve read a lot of his books,I’ve just read one of the books, enjoyed it and as have been really struggling for some reason to find anything decent to read lately, I wondered if they are worth persisting with, I’m always a little wary of authors who produce lots of books about essentially the same subject as to if they become much of the same,

I enjoy the fact that they're the same. I wouldn't read 2/3 in a row but I enjoy the formula occasionally. If there's nothing else grabbing your fancy right now, go for it!

i enjoyed loads of them. Haven’t read the recent ones which I think are written more by his brother

PuttingDownRoots · 16/06/2024 10:04

The first 15 or so were good.

Then he ran out of steam, and his brother wasn't as good.

Thanks, so sounds like give some a read but not all and definitely not one after another

Sure, they’re great. As someone said above, he ran out of steam after a while, but the early ones are enjoyable and pretty well-written. A writer doesn’t have to be serious or high-brow to be good. P. G. Wodehouse never wrote a serious word in his life, but he’s one of the greatest stylists in the English language - far superior to Thomas Hardy. Douglas Adams wrote jokey sci fi, but he’s also a superb writer. The Sherlock Holmes novels are excellent as well.

Coastalcreeksider · 16/06/2024 15:24

I've read pretty much all of his books and would agree, the early books are definitely the best ones.

CharlieCoCo · 22/06/2024 18:46

the middle ones are the best as he changed his writing style and the chapters are really short and often end on cliff hangers.

I've read them in order which helps, as although they can be stand alone, some do refer back. The latest books that are co-written are not as good, but still readable.

Thanks for all the comments, have read a couple now and enjoyed them but will probably have a change before reading anymore, from the comments made it sounds as if it’s a bit similar toJames Patterson series, especially Alex Cross, start well but eventually run out of steam
