Seasonal reading??

I've realised that subconsciously I choose to read "lighter" books over the summer months, even if I'm staying at home.

I remember a MN reader saying that she always reads detective novels in April.

Very obvious but I usually read something Christmassy in December.

Anyone else plan their reading habits around the different times of the year?

Yes, I do to a degree - but I also find I am influenced by the last book I read. If I enjoyed it I'll maybe go for something similar, if I have read something heavy going then I may pick something fluff next - that kind of thing.

I've had a phase of listening to a lot of hot, summer and on holiday listens on audible recently. Precisely to take me away from the crappy early spring weather we had/are having. I listen to very different books to the ones I read usually as I need escapism from the housework I'm usually doing at the time.

However, I do enjoy a read that fits the season.

Yes. At the start of the year I looked at all my books in my TBR pile and worked out if some of them were set at certain times of year. I now have a note on my phone of when I'm going to read certain books. For example, I've got Hamnet and Peril at End House to read over the summer, The Miniaturist to read in October, Christmas is Murder to read in December and The Winter Sprits to read between Christmas and New Year.

Slightly different, but in a similar vein, we're visiting the Scottish Highlands next year, so I've been looking for books based there to read while we're there.

I think I might be guilty of this too. Always enjoy a Christmas novel in December usually followed by a classic in January.

The only other one I usually stick to is reading Veronica Henry's latest book when I'm on holiday.

I've been meaning to read Ali Smith's 4 novels in season but I can never quite rennet which one comes first.

I like a Christmassy read in December, it's the only think that keeps me even vaguely festive in among all the organisation (I always have a crazy busy Xmas hosting tons of people and lots of parties). August is Women in Translation month so I only read WIT that month. When we go on holiday I like to read a book from that location, I usually end up with a list of likely novels that I read before, during and after.

@CadyEastman I started with Autumn and I liked it

*remember

I started with Summer as it was on a Kindle deal but now I realise it was the last one.

I think I'll read Autumn, well I'm the Autumn.

Luckily I have a shocking memory so probably won't remember what happened in the final book Wink

Yes, I do this although it’s not a hard and fast rule. Also, if I’m on holiday I like to try and find books set in that place.
