I'm about a third of the way through The Whalebone Theatre and it's very good. I always enjoy a book set in a country house between the World Wars and this is a really good one. It's main protagonist is a plucky young girl and it has lots of eccentric characters and a linear story line. It's really cheering me up and I need it with this everlasting rain. Highly recommended.

I think anybody who likes I Capture the Castle or Elizabeth Jane Howard would really enjoy it.

I read it before Christmas, and I really enjoyed it too!

It was my favourite read of 2023 and my Mum loved it too.

I read it when it was recommended on The Royal Reading Room on Instagram. Absolutely loved it.

Found it dull. Skipped the acting parts. A poor imitation of Elizabeth Howard.

Absolutely loving this. My kindle says I’m 80% through, and I’m already sad at the thought it’s coming to an end.

The flawed, but lovable characters, the wonderfully descriptive, evocative writing & the WW backdrop from differing perspectives. The best book I’ve read in ages!

Really enjoyed it and had hoped for some sort of sequel.

I loved this book too, read last year and thoroughly enjoyed the story

I've just spent over a week in hospital and this was the perfect read. Not too demanding but well enough written.

At times it did remind me rather too much of the Cazalet Chronicles though.

It is familiar, but not in a bad way. It's well plotted and it's set in such a fascinating period of recent history.

I really enjoyed it & loved how it was like lots of short stories as it moved through time & the characters.

I (and my book group) really enjoyed it.

I bought this on a recommendation of a friend. I really couldn't get on with it and eventually gave up about 2/3 through. And I rarely give up on books. Maybe I should try again.
