My Ds is autistic, 13 years old and into dungeons and dragons, Tolkein etc. Also likes fact books but I feel like we've exhausted the age appropriate ones like What if and How to.

Anyone recommend anything suitable? Orcs, goblins and halflings would be good.

Discworld/Pratchett did not go down well though.

The Unicorn Chronicals by Bruce Colville
Garth Nix's books
The Taran books (about 5 iirc) Lloyd Alexander based on Welsh myths
The Last Unicorn by Peter Beagle
Horrible Histories
The Weirdstone of Brisingamen

That's off the top of my head

Have you seen the child/YA Warhammer novels?

My daughter is a bit younger, but she loved them.

(They have been narrated as well by David Tennant and Billy Piper!)

City of Lifestone is the first in the fantasy series of 6
Attack of the Necron is the first in the more space themed series of 6.

Hunger games
The Witcher

When he's older Game of Thrones

Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy series

Maybe try Shogun, Tai Pan - I loved these at his age from my dads book shelf. I can't remember how appropriate they are but I read all sorts from his shelves

His Dark Materials trilogy - Philip pulman?

Goldfinchtriad · 12/03/2024 09:47

Leigh Bardugo Shadow and Bone trilogy perhaps?

Some great suggestions here... thanks 👍🏻

I think the Witcher might be a bit old for him yet? I haven't read the books but the games and TV show have a lot of sexy time in them Grin

Christopher Paolini - homeschooled and self published his first book at 16. Now an international bestseller - Eragon etc. Haven't read any of his books but my friend's son loves him.

Himawarigirl · 17/03/2024 17:09

The new book by Katherine Rundell ‘Impossible Creatures’. Or ‘The Neverending Story’. Narnia Chronicles or the Dark Materials trilogy.

Throne of Glass series is good, Sarah J Maas, but not the ACOTAR, or Crescent City as they have a LOT of sex, and. End up just being smut
