DH and I are going on holiday next month and he normally reads non fiction. He wants something new for holiday. I tend to read chick lits and crime so am sorted but he would prefer mystery and a good page turner. Any recommendations?

The Strike books by Robert Galbraith aka JK Rowling, starting with The Cuckoo’s Calling.

Thursday Night Murder Club Series by Richard Osman

Death and Croissants Series by Ian Moore

The Sanatorium series by Sarah Pearse

The Magpie Murder series by Anthony Horowitz

The Word is Murder series by Anthony Horowitz

The House of Silk series by Anthony Horowitz

The Tattooist of Auschwitz series by Heather Morris

Has he already read all of John Grisham? If not, The Last Juror.

Or Only Forward by Michael Marshall Smith.

Recently read The Appeal by Janice Hallett and that was really good. Very much a page turner, though I was constantly turning back to the list of characters to remind myself of who's who.

Also like the Strike books, and Anthony Horowitz books as pp have recommended.

Thanks everyone, I will look into these. I don’t think he wants a series as such as he generally reads non fiction and this book (or two) is just for a holiday read but I will look into these authors. Really appreciate your suggestions

I was coming on to say that! Absolutely loved The Appeal

Personally, I hated the first Death and Croissants Series by Ian Moore

Ian rankin is good, quite gritty.
Also very much enjoyed Stuart ManBride's Logan McRae books. Also very gritty.
They're both Scottish

You could give him Gone Girl? That's sort of a mystery.

I don't rate the Galbraith books myself - the first one really drags in the middle. The Appeal is good, though. And you can't go wrong with And Then There Were None.

DoodleMum12 · 11/03/2024 13:56

@zaxxon we have watched the film already. I will look at The Appeal since so many of you recommended it!! Even for myself if not for DH haha

The Birdwatcher by William Shaw (the Alex Cupidi series follows this).
Rubber Necker by Belinda Baueur

Hellohah · 13/03/2024 15:37

He might like I Am Pilgrim by Terry Hayes.

DoodleMum12 · 13/03/2024 18:48

@Hellohah thank you!! I have picked the one you recommended but made a list of the others too- some I already requested from
the library for myself ☺️

@RockyRogue1001 I have read all of Stuart MacBride’s books. Love his writing style! Sometimes even lol when he describes Roberta Steel, especially in the earlier Logan novels

I love the fact that every dedication or bio references his "naughty wife, Fiona"
I like the sound of her!
