Do you mean something other than Audible?

I have a subscription to Everand. I pay annually about €85 (although I think it has gone up since my last payment) but you can have a monthly subscription too. It doesn't have as wide a choice as Audible but it's still an absolutely massive choice, I always find something to listen to. Books rotate in and out so there are often new books. They also have ebooks. You can listen to/read as many as you want to, there's no limit. You don't own any of the books, it's more like a streaming service, like Spotify. I'm pretty sure they do a free trial for a couple of weeks or a month.

Audible has some books free to subscribers, some of which are pretty good. I intermittently take up an Audible subscription because there are some authors that I like (Jodi Taylor and John Scazi for instance) that are only available on Audible and are never on Everand.

Also you can download audio books from your library if you're in the UK. There may be a waiting list for the popular ones though.

There's also Librivox which has been around for ages. The books are old (out of copyright) and they are read by volunteers so it can be hit or miss, mostly miss IMO, but it's free.

I use Audible and BorrowBox which is the library app. BorrowBox are pretty good at getting new releases quickly and of course it’s free! Audible has a large free back catalogue with their membership as well as 1 credit a month for a premium book (best sellers and new releases usually).

I like Audible, it's got a great selection - not cheaper than actual books mind

Libby app via library membership.

There is xigxag which is easy to use and doesn’t require a subscription.

Yes to the Libby app. I think most libraries are now part of Libby or another very similar app (I forget its name). If you have a library card you can sign up.

You do have to be patient and/or not fussy because many audiobooks have a waiting list. But there’s always something that’s available now and you can filter easily to find those.

Luckycloverz · 19/03/2024 21:09

Yes borrowbox and libby are great.

The BBC Sounds app has some audiobooks and loads of radio plays.

the iPhone podcasts app has tons, although you have to search for what you want. I’ve recently discovered one called Nostalgic mystery radio which has lots of Agatha Christie radio plays, eg Miss Marple with June Whitfield. Loving them!

Borrowbox and BBC Sounds.
