I've just read A Far Cry from Kensington. What a great read! I was absolutely bowled over by it, finding it rather like Barabara Pym, but with claws.
But I moved on to the Comforters and am finding it an odd mix of being dull and wildly
inventive. I don't know how that's possible, but it is.
I've read Girls of Slender Means and TPO Miss Jean Brodie, and I've just bought the Mandelbaum Gate , but I was wondering if other posters would gave any specific recommendations.

I'm just about to start her short stories.

A Far Cry was my favourite. Although I have Momento Mori in my tbr pile too.

Fabulous writer! I know that The Driver's Seat was her favourite among her own works if that is any pointer - it's on my "to read" list.

Must admit I find her claws and snobbery unpleasant but if you like her writing, her autobiography Curriculum Vitae has those qualities in spades.

I think Graham Greene wrote that every writer had to have a sliver of ice in their heart. Which it seems MS had.

Memento Mori.

However, I think The Girl's of Slender Means is fabulous.
