I used to love reading but found once having children I fell out of the habit. I’ve been trying to get back into reading but struggling to find a really good page turner… I’d love some recommendations please?
my favourites in the past have been:
The handmaids tale
the time traveller’s wife
the midwich cuckoos
I like Dystopia, post apocalyptic fiction but not really young adult (unless it’s really good!), fantasy (but not really fantastical if that makes sense!), nothing with too many characters as I am rubbish with remembering who everyone is!
I would love to hear any suggestions for books I might enjoy. Thanks

Thank you so much for the recommendations, I have already read and enjoyed about half of them which suggests the rest will be great reads for me too! I have Amazon birthday vouchers waiting so am going to load up my kindle with some of your suggestions, definitely feeling excited to try some!

And Never Let Me Go also by KI - it stayed with me for a long time

I really loved both of these! Agree with the story staying with me for a long time

Last one at the party by Bethany Clift....post acopalytic but very different to the usual format.

Another vote for The Last One at the Party by Bethany Clift, Greenwood by Michael Christie and Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell. Also, The Bone Clocks by David Mitchell.

The Dog Stars by Peter Heller

Right, I’ve just finished The Boy on the Bridge and loved it, I really enjoyed the girl with all the gifts a few years ago and thought this would be a good one to start with! I found I was reaching for the kindle in the evenings instead of the tv remote! Got a few of the other recommendations loaded up ready to read next!

Dystopia wise I'd recommend the Wool Trilogy by Hugh Howey (it's also a tv series now called Silo) Very good books.

Also anything by Kate Quinn eg Rose Code per previous poster. If you like historical fiction.

Seven Sisters series by Lucinda Riley (or any of Lucinda Riley's books)

Have you read 'The Heart Goes Last' by Margaret Atwood? I read it when I was 'off' reading and really enjoyed it.

TotallyFloored · 15/02/2024 12:09

Recent ones I've enjoyed reading are:
Where the Crawdads Sing
Project Hail Mary
I Am Pilgrim
Also loved Pillars Of The Earth, but read that one ages ago.

PeatandDieselfan · 15/02/2024 12:38

'Only Forward ' by Michael Marshall Smith. Also 'Spares', also by Michael Marshall Smith, which is a similar idea to 'Never Let Me Go' but from a different point of view.

Following for all these wonderful recommendations

I enjoyed Vox, though her other book not so much. Maybe Sleeping Beauties by Stephen King and his son? Year One by Nora Roberts?
For a non-dystopian, I’ll recommend the book I’ve spent my life recommending to as many people as possible - Barbara Kingsolver’s Poisonwood Bible.

Yes I liked Vox, and sleeping beauties I enjoyed too, I’ll definitely try the other two you’ve recommended thanks
