I'm thinking to work my way through these. I've been through the list since it started and I've only read 4. How many have you read, which ones and have you enjoyed them. I've read
Shuggie Bain
Life of Pi
A Sense Of An Ending
Girl, Woman, Other

I have The Remains of the Day on my bookshelf and Prophet Song on order.

Did you read Prophet Song yet @teaandtoastwithmarmite ?
If so what did you think ?

No sorry! I'm picking it up tomorrow. I will report back. I have the two Hilary Mantels' to read along with The Sea, The Sea, Staying On and Vernon God Little (got my book club into it as well for one book 😄)

It appears I've read far more than I thought (I used the Wiki list so hope that's right):

Schinder's Ark - 3*
The Handmaid's Tale - 4*
The Remains of the Day - 5* (this is one of my most loved books, my favourite by far from this list)
The Blind Assassin - 1* (apart from The Handmaid's Tale, I haven't enjoyed any Atwood book)
The Amber Spyglass - 4*
Life of Pi - 4*
Oryx and Crake - 1*
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time - 4*
Never Let me Go - 2*
The White Tiger - 4*
Wolf Hall - 4*
Bring up the Bodies - 4*
My Name is Lucy Barton - 2*
The Underground Railroad - DNF
Normal People - 1*
My Sister, the Serial Killer - 3*
Klara and the Sun - 2*
Small Things Like These - 4*

I'm now off to see what others I can read haha!

Penelope Lively Moon Tiger
AS Byatt Possession
Pat Barker The Ghost Road
Margaret Atwood The Blind Assassin
Peter Carey True History of the Kelly Gang
Yann Martell The Life of Pi
Margaret Atwood The Testaments
Bernadine Everisto Girl, Woman, Other
Douglas Stuart Shuggie Bain
Paul Lynch Prophet Song (currently reading)

So that's 10 winners and I've read a good chunk of long listed ones too.

My absolute favourite was Possession (it's one of my favourite all time books). I'm enjoying Prophet Song. I hated Life of Pi. I liked all the others I read - Shuggie Bain being particularly good.

I started Wolf Hall but couldn't get on with it. Should get back to it I suppose.

It's a nice idea, but personally I wouldn't bother. I no longer trust the literary establishment. Too often, things like the Booker and T. S. Eliot Prize are mere box ticking exercise. People often win awards not for the quality of their writing but for being who they are. Or they'll win because their novel tackles a worthy cause, even though the novel itself is mediocre.

Harold Bloom was the last critic whose opinion I trusted. I use him as a guide for who to read. Bloom was ruthlessly honest, and made a point of judging books purely on their literary merit – nothing else.

I so agree, especially with the thought that "they'll win because their novel tackles a worthy cause, even though the novel itself is mediocre."

I much prefer classics these days. I don't want this year's trendy cause, I want books that have stood the test of time.

I’ve returned with an update! Read Prophet Song and I thought it was outstanding! I read it in 3 days after having it sit on the shelf for a bit because I was intimidated but I loved it. It really made me think. Also I’ve since read vernon god little and that was much harder to follow.
