I'm just getting into dyspotian novels. Really liked 1984, Handmaid's Tale and I've just read The Marriage Act. I'm keen to read more books in the same vein.
Not keen on too much Sci fi, aliens, etc.

Other Margaret Atwood eg Oryx and Crake
The gate to Women’s Country
Gift upon the Shore
Young adult stuff like Divergent/ Hunger Games
John Christopher eg Sword of the Spirits

SlashBeef · 27/12/2023 17:24

Brilliant, thank you. I have actually read The Hunger Games, forgot that one. I've always tended to shy away from YA fiction but I really enjoyed that series.

I loved The Silence Project.
I've just read Tender is the Flesh, and really enjoyed it.

MaudGone · 27/12/2023 19:08

There's a book by Dorian Lynskey, "The Ministry of Truth", about Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four. It discusses books which influenced, and were influenced by, Orwell's novel.

amylou8 · 27/12/2023 19:37

I who have never known men - Jacqueline harpman - is excellent. If you enjoyed handmaids tale you'll like it.

Wool trilogy (silo) - Hugh Howey - the first one has been made into a TV series but that doesn't touch the sides of the book.

Silo 49 - Ann Chirsty - reading these at the moment, set in the same world as the Wool trilogy, different author but very good.

Arthur C Clarke Rama.

Mothership4two · 27/12/2023 20:13

I remember enjoying Arthur C Clarke's Rama series.

The Ministry of Truth has now been ordered from the library

The death of grass.
I love this genre too 😊

HomiesAlone · 27/12/2023 20:36

Would the recent Man Booker Prize fall into this genre? That's great.

Cheeseplantalltheway · 27/12/2023 20:40

The School for Good Mothers by Jessamine Chan

WolvesDiscoandBoogaloo · 27/12/2023 20:42

Definitely Never Let Me Go, if you haven't read it.

I also second The Stand by Stephen King. I'm actually reading that myself at the moment, for the sixth or seventh time. I love it to bits.

SlashBeef · 27/12/2023 22:21

Thank you so much! So many to look into. I got a Kindle for Christmas and I'm really looking forward to trying some of these out.

I’ve just finished Light over Liskeard by Louis de Bernieres which was good and very thought provoking.
