The Dark is Rising

I was very excited as I have obtained a copy of the Dark is Rising and want to read it now it’s all cold and wintry, but I’ve noticed it says the book I have (The Dark is Rising) is the second in the sequence? Does it matter if I read them out of order?

@WotNoUserName that is very exciting news! I was talking to an illustrator who did the cover art for one edition of TDIR series recently, and he told me that there is going to be a board/ RPG game which he is working on.

Started re reading this last night - it's so Christmassy. I love the descriptions of the snow and the clouds - and also the big chaotic family and the farmhouse.

A tv series is potentially very exciting but they would absolutely have to keep the 70s setting. No attempts to ‘update it for a modern audience’, please. And it would need extremely strong child actors - the radio adaptation was sadly spoiled for me by the incredibly wooden and mannered actor who played Will.

Ah, me too @bookworm14 It was great otherwise, very atmospheric but I don't think I'll re-visit.

I read over sea, under stone as a child and loved it. No idea why I didn't read on, but will now. Reserved on library app!
