Charity shop haul

Does anyone else buy many of their books from charity shops?

I do but I need to go on a book buying ban next year until I get through many of my current TBR. That said I feel like I hit the jackpot this week.

A big thank you to the lovely people who donate their books to charity shops.

Also not included because it's downstairs is a Penguin English Library edition of Little Women.

Also which book(s) would you begin with?

I love second hand books! The town I live in has a dedicated second hand book shop, and I love spending a hour or so having a good look round. I am also lucky in that we have 3 book share/read and drop/ free to take public bookshelves in the local area.
I do buy new if there is something specific I want/need but much prefer a good bargain!
Start with the Ruth Rendel!

I'd start with the Fannie Flagg.

I’ve got all but the last Robert Galbraith Strike series to donate. I just have to get them there so they stop taking up room. Our local Save The Children shop recently posted asking for books so I must take them soon.
Our local Tesco has a table at the front with used paper backs and a donation box to pay for them. I’ve got 4 TBR books at the moment, I just need find the time!

😯@NoShelfControl - Charity shops near me stopped taking book donations. I used to use it like a library - buy one then take it back and buy another but when I had had a clear out white said they were stopping taking books .

You’ve got a great mix of books there @NoShelfControl. DH and I try to rein in our physical book-buying (we’ve got too many books) but can’t resist a charity shop. I very rarely pay full price for anything and my theory is that pretty much every book you want will turn up in a charity shop eventually, you’ve just got to bide your time.

I enjoyed The Dinner Guest.

Away with the Penguins was a gentle feel good book.
I always buy then donate most books but a few I love so much I have to keep them .. just to admire Smile

I used to buy huge amounts of books in charity shops - I still do occasionally but less than I used to before COVID. But I still buy a lot of books through Kindle deals and get a few from charity shops. My last really big splurge was in an Oxfam Bookshop while on holiday in Deal last year - otherwise it's normally 1-5 at a time, and not usually on the scale I used to indulge in regularly. Some of the places I used to go to have a much reduced stock or have hiked their prices up, and I know that I have too many books still at home.

I tend to look more at classics reprints, non fiction and children's books, and books I don't think are so likely to come up as Kindle deals, though sometimes I'm stricter with myself than other times.

Of the books I can see, I particularly liked The Silence of the Girls and Putney (though the latter is very disturbing, and I preferred her first novel and her memoir of living in Athens).

Oh, and great user name - I identify with that one!

Love a charity shop book haul! Teen DD comes along when she needs a new read too! Can't remember the last time I bought full price.
