Can anyone recommend me a fiction novel set in Christmas please?
Something light and with a happy ending. Thank you

I adore The Christmas Bookshop by Jenny Coolgan and currently only £2.50! It's set in Edinburgh and is so well-written and lovely

I always read Winter Solstice by Rosamunde Pilcher, as it’s a cosy book ending At Christmas, but was written in 2000 so maybe a bit old.

Christmas at the Beach Hut by Veronica Henry.

Moreempatheticmyarse · 29/10/2023 21:24

Tristan Ashley has written a few Christmas ones.

I quite like Twelve days of Christmas

greyhairnomore · 29/10/2023 21:45

The Christmas Mystery - Jostein Gaarder

Atomickittyxx · 29/10/2023 22:01

Also came on to say Christmas at the beach hut by Veronica Henry.

Stargazy Pie by Laura Lockington is hands down my favourite Christmas chick lit.

Just lovely.

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 29/10/2023 22:25

@DustyLee123 genuine question - i read Winter Solstice last christmas after always seeing it crop up on threads like this and found it fucking bleak rather than cosy. The only daughter, light of her father’s life, was killed off so that he could conveniently get over it by christmas to get together with the main character. What am i missing that makes cosy rather than horrific?

CatChant · 29/10/2023 22:28

A Redbird Christmas by Fannie Flagg.

BeetleDeuce · 29/10/2023 22:36

Yes to a Redbird Christmas.

It’s hard to find good Christmas novels!! The Dark is Rising by Susan cooper is good.

A few nice children’s ones - the Christmas Pig was more gruelling than I expected but the Boy who saved Christmas is nice.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 29/10/2023 22:38

There's a chocolate one I read this one. It's good and I'm not usually into chick lit

I find it all cosy ! Although the wife/daughter/dogs dying at bonfire night time and him being tickety-boo by Christmas is a bit fast 🤣

Skipping Christmas by John Grisham.

Oh I loved that book Wink

Karen Swan, LuLu Taylor and Heidi Swain write some nice Christmas books.

Christmas at Fairacre by Miss Read - it’s actually an Omnibus of three books and is a really lovely gentle read (as all her books are)

I listen to it every Xmas on audible, it’s now become a tradition

Her other series (Thrush Green) also have ones set at Xmas

Highly recommend

I wish it could be Christmas everyday by Milly Johnson - a group of strangers, snowed in in a pub. I thought it would be rubbish but it was a really good, light read. I just wish I’d saved it for December as it is very atmospheric.

I thought the sane pre read but it was a really go story with very engaging characters.

Trisha Ashley

The Christmas Invitation
A Christmas Cracker
12 days of Christmas
One more Christmas at the castle
The magic of Christmas

The first being my favourite, I read it every year (well listen on Audible)

Wow, can't believe no one has mentioned A Christmas Carol! It's one of those books everyone knows but never actually reads – like 1984 or The War of the Worlds.

evryevrytime · 03/11/2023 09:24

Christmas Pudding by Nancy Mitford is good fun.

And on a similar note, I recommend Mr Dickens And His Carol by Samantha Silva. It’s about Dickens actually writing the book and it’s just lovely (and does have a happy ending!)

I reread it last year and totally agree!

Forgot that some recommended Prudence by Jilly Cooper last year. I'd never read any of hers before and really enjoyed it Wink
