Any thoughts on which one is the best version/narrator? Easiest to listen to etc?

I chose this one:

because I really didn't want the Stephen Fry version (he would be a great Holmes, but the stories are narrated by Watson, of course).

Simon Vance is one of the best audiobook narrators there is. He doesn't put too much personality into his readings and doesn't do OTT voices.

One of the things I enjoy about the Sherlock Holmes stories is the language used. Simon Vance is just so clear and easy to listen to, I wasn't disappointed. I am aware I'm starting to sound like his agent :).

BBC Sounds has the radio plays from the 1960s featuring Carleton Hobbs and Norman Shelley. At about 27 min each they are very easy to listen to. Depends whether you want the original stories read aloud or dramatisations.

I love the Stephen Fry readings. He has also recorded P. G. Wodehouse – oh, and M. R. James' ghost stories.

Laying in a hot bath, while Stephen Fry reads Sherlock Holmes or P. G. Wodehouse, is pure bliss.
