Am going through a stressful time and have abandoned Demon Copperhead as it's too depressing. Need something to escape with - doesn't have to be light weight but a page turner .. what do you recommend?

The Hearts Invisible Furies by John Boyne if you haven't already read it.

I also enjoyed the most recent Richard Osman book as an audiobook the reader was really good

I find Lisa Jewell highly readable - normally only takes a couple of days per book as I can't leave them alone.

Dominicana by Annie Cruz

Nonfiction: eg Le Freak by Nile Rodgers

I haven't read Demon Copperhead yet but I have it on Audible to listen to. I've heard good things about it.
I really liked The Poisonwood Bible by the same author, but I really disliked Flight Behaviour so the jury is out!

Anything by jo Jo Moyes, especially the giver of stars. I just tune the world out when I'm reading her books. Sebastian faulks is good for history/romance/mystery. Stephen booth for crime based dramas

The Running Grave by Robert Galbraith. Best of the Strike books so far.

JK Rowling at her best.

EwwSprouts · 10/10/2023 20:20

Still Life by Sarah Winman - just a lovely read.

Jijithecat · 10/10/2023 21:44

Not necessarily a page turner but I just finished Cuckoo in the Nest by Fran Hill. I really enjoyed it.

zoo18 · 10/10/2023 21:54

John Marrs, all of his books are fab

ABCXYZ17 · 10/10/2023 21:56

A second vote for Small Pleasures, great book!

MadamVastra · 12/10/2023 20:27

Third vote for small pleasures!

carkerpartridge · 13/10/2023 15:57

I agree with Small Pleasures. I really like Clare Chambers as a writer and find her books very readable. My unputdownable book of this year is The Housemaid by Freida McFadden, great thriller that is very good in its own right but also has a sequel. It has quite short chapters so doesn't feel overwhelming.
