White Teeth : Zadie Smith

I'm only about halfway through this wonderful book - did anyone else love it?

I think she has the most incredible ear for dialogue. Very funny.

sorry to divert but since you are such a bookworm sm, do you know the name and author of the book about a girl who is murdered by a man and then watches her family after the murder? is it any good?

no havent read the book you mentioned btw!

I found it pretty hard going and lost interest towards the end.

I enjoyed it, because I used to live in Willesden and that brought it to life for me.

Spacedonkey, I loved White Teeth too.

Hated White Teeth - gave up a quarter of the way in. Thought Lovely Bones was a great read.

I quite enjoyed White Teeth but felt it was very self consciously Guardianista, if you know what I mean...a bit precious. Funny though, and better than anything I could do so hats off to Zadie smith. Still haven't read Lovely Bones, cannot decide if it will be too awful and shocking for me!Anyone want to persuade me?

i really liked it too. though agree that the ending isn't all it could have been. she was at cambridge at the same time as me (different college) - but i don't think i'm the person popsy is referring to. hmmmm, now i'm intrigued...
