If I loved Lessons in Chemistry, what else would I like?

Just finished it and enjoyed it tremendously. It’s not necessarily the storyline itself that gripped me, but the style of writing. Killer one liners all over it which floored me either with woe or glee. Such clever writing.
So recommendation’s don’t necessarily have to be about feminism or rowing, or clever dogs (god I’m going to miss Six Thirty) more that I’m looking for the style of writing iyswim.

I loved it too. Was a very clever book. And so good because of the style of writing. I haven't read anything similar that I can think of. Not that style anyway.

I loved it too. Currently reading Second Siggt of Zachary Cloudsley and really enjoying it

HewasH2O · 24/09/2023 19:57

I enjoyed it, but I tend to read a lot of non fiction rather than fiction. Maggie O'Farrell?

BarbaraVineFan · 24/09/2023 19:58

You might try a bit of Barbara Trapido, or Kate Atkinson maybe OP?

If you liked 'Lessons in Chemistry ' I'd recommend 'The Calculating Stars' by Mary Robinette Kowal I loved them both

What about Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine?
Or Leonard and Hungry Paul which is such a beautifully observed, delightful book

hby9628 · 24/09/2023 20:17

I read it and enjoyed it but I enjoyed Elenor Oliphant is completely fine more so I would definitely put that on your list

I saw that lessons in chemistry is being made into a tv show but I can't remember which channel.

The Rosie Project

JMAngel1 · 24/09/2023 20:25

Aww thank you everyone. Strangely I’ve read quite a few these suggestions (Rosie, Oliohant, quite a few KA) already so I must have a genre.

Will check out the other ones / thank you.

If you like it as a feminist text, some of Margaret Atwood’s books may appeal to you.
