Borrow Box Recommendations please

I've just got Borrow Box and I'm stuggling to know how to search on there so I just need some recommendations really.

I like fiction such as by Jodi Piccoult and anything that is emotive. I'm not into thriller or romance.

Apart from fiction I enjoyed reading " Did I Say that out Loud" by Fi Glover and Jane Garvey. I found Michelle Obama's autobiography interesting.

Any suggestions that might suit me?

Thank you!!

Thank you.

I could only find one of those on borrow box I wonder if its different for each library.

It does vary by library, I moved and found when I joined with the new library the options were different. On Libby the borrow length changed from 14 days to 21 days too so that too may vary depending on the package the library get.

Have you read the Seven Sisters series by Lucinda Riley? If not, I’d give them a go.

Chickenkorma64 · 12/08/2023 10:58

I find the cataloguing on BorrowBox a bit hit and miss. Sometimes you search for a title and there’s nothing, but if you search by author the book suddenly appears! (And vice versa).

Often the most popular books are unavailable so I put what I want on reserve.

@Chickenkorma64 oh that's good to know! I've got some researching to do!! Thank you

@EmpressaurusOfCats no I haven't...I ll have a look! Thank you

I'm spending way too much time on mums net so need a few light hearted books on the go that are easy to dip in and out of.

A few audiobooks I've enjoyed recently:

Someone Else's Shoes, Jo Jo Moyes
The Crossing Place, Elly Griffiths (Ruth Galloway mystery series. My library has the first 5, and I'm now reading the remainder as paperbacks via the reservation system.
Heartbreak Hotel, Deborah Moggach

Lomaamina · 12/08/2023 11:29

I realise these aren't that highbrow, Blushbut well written, nonetheless

talknomore · 12/08/2023 21:55

Yes for Elly Griffiths @Lomaamina !
I love Ruth Galloway.
I must try to search for title and a author separately.
I hate that their catalogs are so short

I have found BorrowBox difficult to navigate. Sometimes I search by Author or by book name and even then I haven’t found the books I wanted.

Kittyhasababy · 14/08/2023 08:55

If you can’t find it, it probably means your library doesn't have it! Mine has a far better selection in the actual library than on Borrowbox.

I use BorrowBox all the time, no longer read physical books as I prefer reading on my iPad. I usually search by narrowing down my choices, select adult, then categories, then select Bestsellers or most popular. I often find that new releases have a long wait until they are available so I always make sure I select a few books available now and the rest that are on loan with a bit of a waiting time.

BaffledAgain · 14/08/2023 09:28

Lately I've really enjoyed reading
Anxious People by Fredrik Blackman
Dear Mrs Bird by AJ Pearce
Ellie and the Harpmaker by Hazel Prior
This is going to hurt by Adam Kay
The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion
The Castaways by Lucy Clarke
The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley

The other good thing about BorrowBox is you can look back through the titles of the books you have read, to recommend them to others or just to stop selecting them again because you've forgotten what you've read!

Thanks @BaffledAgain that's really helptul.
I like reading on my phone because of the dyslexia font.

@RobotsWillRule That's so useful for dyslexia. My friend is visually impaired and can no longer read books but can read on a device with a very large font.
I use my iPad because I like to read in bed and my husband says the page rustling and bedside light keeps him awake😆
