A train journey, and to read over a solitary lunch in a cafe? Would like something lighthearted, probably chick-lit?

Going on a shopping trip on my own tomorrow, dh gave me money at xmas to buy new clothes and only just getting round to it now - I can't wait!

They are not very 'challenging' books, but I always find books by Lesley Pearse quite a good read.

Thanks emma... think I have seen them in the train station too! not really looking for a challenging read lol

Jonathan Franzen's HOW TO BE ALONE
though it may raise a few eyebrows, it is an excellent and really engrossing book - especially the chapter on abuses in the US postal service (I'm not joking!)

I just realised, its non fiction- but its just this collection of essays by novelist J Franzen and its hilarious and compelling.

The chapter about the US postal service tells of these postal workers who had compulsive disorders and whose homes were found stuffed with 20 yrs worth of unsent post.

probably a copy in most libraries if you don't fancy buying it

Actually this sounds quite like my sort of thing! Will have a look for it, thank you poodle!

Lucy Sullivan is getting married by Marion Keyes, total chick lit and soooo funny, if you don't laugh out loud you'll certainly have a smile on your face. Its been out ages but you'll easily get a copy in Waterstones, Bookers or smiths

Have read some MK (not that one) and really enjoyed it, thanks for the recommendation!

I've read all MK, really like her but Lucy.... is the funniest of all her books, another good one is Olivias luck by Catherine Alliot,
