A book like Romantic Comedy, by Curtis Sittenfeld?

I recently read Romantic Comedy by Curtis Sittenfeld and loved it! Tried another couple of books in the same genre, but found the plots too predictable: a bit like I was reading through beats that had to exist to get to the end point.

Can anyone recommend a clever, uplifting read? Something that will completely hook me? No trauma, no sad ending, but also not too predictable or formulaic?

Came on to say her other books are great too.

Pineapple Street by Jenny Jackson is very good (might not be out in UK yet).

the latecomer by jean hanff korelitz is great. actually all her novels are great.

Have you tried something by Jennifer Crusie? She writes great stories that capture you from the first page and they usually have a really happy, satisfying ending (which I'm all about!). Plus, I like that the characters aren't typical stereotypes. Her books usually bring sass, warmth and strange things afoot.

I’ve read most of Curtis Sittenfeld’s other books! Really enjoyed them, and it’s why I tried this one - and it turned out to be my favourite of hers yet.

Thank you for these other suggestions! I haven’t read any of them! I am going to have a look and order some now!

If you try Crusie go with Welcome to Trmptation.

Hi I loved Romantic Comedy too!! I love everything Curtis Sittenfield has written. I feel totally bereft now I’ve finished it but here are some books I’ve loved recently: Sorrow and Bliss and I’ll be mother by Meg Mason (hi @Tare you have great taste). Also Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver. Such a fun age by Kiley Read, The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt, all the Cormoran Strike books by Robert Galbraith (JK Rowling), I’m glad my mom died (non fiction), My name is Leon by Kit de Waal, When god was a rabbit by Sarah Winman, and Crossroads by Jonathan Franzen. I hope you like some/any of these!
