Done all Len Deighton. Gavin Lyall, Sherlock Holmes,, Campion Sayers.
History based would be nice. Enjoyed Bernard Cornwell Sharp and US Civil War.
Liked some Georgette Heyer, Toll Gate and Reluctant Widow have unique plot devices. At least I have not seen them before.
Not liked Sci-fi, Fantasy etc.
I like to suspend disbelief but have to be almost possible for me.

Georgette Heyer?

Try Jane Austen.

Scott Turow... all good, but Testimony was the most recent AFAIK

Chris Hammer and Joel Dicker were 2022's great discoveries for me. Chris Hammer is an Aussie, writing about crime and politics. Joel Dicker is Swiss, writing about an American, who is a novelist. Both write lengthy complex thrillers.

DH enjoyed the above, a lot. He mainly reads on holiday.

Do you know Michael Connelly? The doyen of US crime novelists.

I also like Quintin Jardine, who's a Scot. His primary protagonist is an Edinburgh cop, called Bob Skinner.

We both loved the Flashman series, also the Boris Akunin books are fantastic. Patrick O'Brien is wonderful.

I just bought the new Barbara Kingsolver book for my husband - Demon Copperhead.

The Leigh Bardugo duology, Six of Crows/The Crooked Kingdom is brilliant too. DH loved them.
