Has she written anything suitable for a 9yo excellent reader who's fascinated by classical myths? I can't seem to find out.

I've read the one about medusa and I seem to remember it being fairly blunt about the rape so I'm not sure it would be suitable. I haven't read any of her others though.

All of her books, fiction and non-fiction, have explicit rape in them. (Unexpurgated classical myths are pretty rapey generally.) Suitable for teens probably - she handles it well - but probably quite upsetting for a 9-year-old.

Thanks, that's helpful. She's a great storyteller.

My classics obsessed teen started with Percy Jackson if she's not read them (and other series by the same author)

@EmmaStone , thank you

Tom Holland (the historian, not the Spiderman actor!) has just written a new book of for 9-12 year olds on the Persian Wars which sounds like it might be what you’re looking for.

Michelle Paver's Gods and Warriors series might be of interest.

Also Rosemary Sutcliffe Black Ships Before Troy

Keep them coming!

Try Steven Fry's Mythos, or Heroes. I found these very suitable for younger readers.

Natalie Haynes is fantastic for adults, but ancient Greek gods were mostly spectacularly unlovely characters and she does not pull her punches with her story telling.

You could also try Herodotus, The Histories - Tom Holland has published a translation of this: full of ripping yarns, although it is rather a thick book for a 9 year old at over 800 pages!

I am nearly 60 and was given Bullfinch's Mythology (Both Greek and Roman Legends) when I was about 7yo. It was originally published in 1855 and was fairly well Bowdlerised for young readers from what I can remember. It's in the public domain and can be downloaded from project Gutenberg.

It was Roger Lancelyn Green's Tales of the Greek Heroes which set me on a path to Latin A-level.
(This may not be a recommendation...)

I read a book called Priam's Daughter at around that age which got me into Greek myths, and another called (I think) Daughters of Sparta.

Thanks everyone

Good luck finding it, but at her age I loved Mystery at Mycenae by Roger Lancelyn Green. It's about the abduction of a young Helen of Troy, a lesser known part of her life story, and two Greek heroes as children look into the mystery.
