I've had a few Jilly books on my kindle for a while now - since they were 99p each on Amazon! Missing - Polo. Does this affect the story arc? Is it worth the £3.99 current price?! Any thoughts appreciated.

@burnoutbabe Pretty much the same for me, Pandora was the last one I read all the way through and enjoyed. The school one was bizarre. Jump and Mount just didn’t grab me at all.

I still love the 70s/80s novellas (Emily, Octavia etc) mainly for the description of the clothes and the lifestyle, though all these posh secretaries living in Chelsea flats seemed a bit unrealistic. Imogen stuck at home in a Yorkshire vicarage and working in a library was more believable!

pandora did bring us in the annoying Dora who is in all the next few books and i have in my mind she is a short tubby child but she seems to be dating some gorgeous actor stud type. But she is irritating in Mount and Jump.

I’ve just remembered it’s 1st May so time to repeat the lovely ditty from Rivals:

First of May, first of May
Outdoor fucking starts today
But as usual it do rain
So we fucks off indoors again

Brilliant!!😄
I agree, they're dated books but so much fun.

Jilly's new book Tackle! is out in November and is available for preorder on Amazon! 😁😁😁😁

Gunpowder · 22/08/2023 17:53

Stop it! This is excellent news.

PussBilledDuckyPlait · 22/08/2023 18:18

Oooh. When I saw 'Tackle' I stereotypically assumed it would be about rugby, the Rutshire folk being all posh, like. But I see RCB buys a football team! I see this as potentially having a 'Rivals' vibe - hope so. And hope RCP keeps his plonker in his pants this time buttercunt.

I know right! I'm on holiday gutted that it's not here too read but equally excited that it's on its way which has made my day

So it will be Taggie cooking for a bake sale to raise money for a new kit

Dora Belevedon running the club house

Loads of past characters suddenly interested in football.

An exotic trip to some far off country to watch the World Cup to drum up support .

i just wondered is there any equivalent kind of stuff being written now?
used to be Harold Robbins, Jacqueline Collins just easy fun reads. yes i realise they are of their time but is there anything like them now? A fast paced story some steamy scenes not too graphic and most of all funny!
everything seems to be thrillers with twists (yawn) or misery .
If anyone knows anything similar please shout out.
Marianne Keyes is the only one I can think of

Rebecca Chance, especially "Bad Brides". Ridiculous but fun. Over-the-top on every level.

I love Polo. The Right Man (no spoilers) is my all-time favourite JC man.

I love the fact that Tackle is called Tackle but I'm not expecting to like it very much, partly because the last few haven't been that good, and partly because I'm not only not very interested in football myself, but I suspect JC isn't either. She did sort of cover rugby before as a subplot in the teacher one IIRC.

Apparently she is a football fan - she follows her local team Forest Green Rovers and has her own billboard at the ground!
